Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between German Charles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Lopez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jose Lopez will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, German Charles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jose Lopez!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Josh West and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lopez closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Lopez jumps guard and drags Charles to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Charles could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Charles tries to stand but Lopez is controlling from the bottom.
Lopez looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Charles trying to control but Lopez is working from the bottom.
Lopez wants to sweep but no luck.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lopez wants to control the position but Charles says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Lopez looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Charles is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Lopez wants to get back to full guard.
Charles tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Lopez.
Lopez is looking to control Charles's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Lopez avoid being mounted?
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Lopez trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Charles looking to control and managing it successfully.

Lopez bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Lopez with a flurry of punches that miss.
Lopez stops Charles from standing up.
Lopez looking to sit in guard and control but Charles gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Charles being controlled here momentarily.

Charles is standing up over Lopez. Lopez looks to escape but Charles dives into side control.
Charles in the domination position with Lopez hanging on.
Charles staying calm.
Charles wants to control but Lopez is keeping him busy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Lopez is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Charles asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Lopez is trying to improve his position.

Charles stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Lopez defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Charles.
Lopez tries to counter with a clinch but Charles shakes him off and moves away.
Lopez tries a head kick but it misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that German Charles will probably get the nod.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Lopez forces Charles back against the cage and clinches.
Charles fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Lopez wants to break the clinch but can't.

Lopez has hold of one of Charles's legs. Charles is fighting the takedown attempt but Lopez gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Lopez throwing strikes from guard but Charles blocks nicely.
Lopez wants to control from the top but Charles keeps moving.
Lopez would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lopez controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Lopez slips nicely into half guard.
Lopez trying to control from half guard but Charles is working away.
Lopez wants to pass to mount but Charles is defending the position.
Lopez is just content to waste time from the top position. Charles takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Lopez tries to free his leg and advance position but Charles is retaining full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Charles looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Lopez slips nicely into half guard.
Charles is looking to control Lopez's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Charles avoid being mounted?
Lopez throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Lopez stalling away here and it's allowed Charles to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Charles controlling the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Charles is trying to control the position but Lopez postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Lopez tries to close the distance and clinch but Charles swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Charles tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Lopez manages to circle out of the way.
The fight stays on the outside here - Charles looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
As Charles backs off Lopez throws a huge counter combo but Charles manages to avoid it all.
Lopez falls off balance throwing a combination
and Charles counters with a straight right hand.
Charles shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Lopez pinned against the cage. Lopez gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Lopez tries to clinch up.

Lopez pushes Charles up against the cage in a clinch.

Lopez pulls guard successfully.
Lopez pulls Charles in close to prevent any damage.
Jose Lopez has got the better of the ground game so far.
Charles stopping the sweep attempt from Lopez.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jose Lopez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Lopez has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Charles is pushing Lopez up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Charles breaks the clinch.
Lopez uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Lopez fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Charles manages to avoid it.
Charles half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lopez closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Charles did well to prevent Lopez getting side control.
Charles might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Lopez content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Charles tries to kick Lopez off but Lopez keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Charles tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Lopez perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Lopez stands up out of the half guard.

Charles closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Lopez to the mat! Lopez manages to get full guard.

Lopez manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Lopez is looking to clinch but Charles is avoiding it.

Lopez closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Lopez lands in his opponent's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lopez throws a big right hand that misses.
Lopez slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Charles is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Lopez passes Charles's left leg - he's now in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Charles pushes Lopez off looking to stand but Lopez dives back in and keeps control.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Lopez decides to stand and escape the position.

Charles closes the distance and clinches.
Charles lands a shot to the body.

Charles jumps into guard, dragging Lopez to the mat.
Charles working a defensive guard but Lopez manages to pass into side control anyway.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lopez is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Charles tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Lopez content just to control the position here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lopez misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jose Lopez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Lopez has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
