The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith clinches with his opponent.
Smith tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Kandle smiles and moves away.
Smith moves into the clinch.
Smith pulls guard effortlessly.
Smith throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Kandle escapes and throws Smith's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Smith tries to get back to half guard but can't.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kandle is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Kandle looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Kandle uses his free foot to push down on Smith's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Smith.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
