The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cares shoots and misses
and Gatto counters with a thumping low kick.

Gatto is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Cares pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Cares has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Gatto clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Cares is trying to stick to Gatto's back but Gatto is turning into Cares. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Cares's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Gatto.

Gatto drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cares manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gatto has Cares in his guard.

Gatto has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cares can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Cares looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gatto with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Gatto working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
