PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Scott Nolan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacob Trust (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Scott Nolan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jacob Trust!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Alec Ball and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Trust throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Nolan tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Trust is in Nolan's guard.
Trust trying to control the position from guard on top but Nolan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Trust preventing the sweep.
Trust really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nolan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Trust trying to control but Nolan is working from the bottom.
Trust might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Nolan haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Trust is pulling down on Nolan's head. It's preventing any offense from Nolan, at least for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nolan engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Nolan's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Nolan would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Nolan works over Trust with some ground and pound from guard.

Trust working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nolan doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nolan manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Nice takedown defense from Trust. No joy for Nolan on that attempt.

Trust manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Nolan on his heels. He'll look to pass Nolan's guard now, I'm sure.
Trust passes Nolan's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Nolan tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Trust makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Trust drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Nolan manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Trust has Nolan in his guard.

Trust controls Nolan momentarily but Nolan frees himself.

Nolan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Nolan's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Trust controls Nolan momentarily but Nolan frees himself.
Nolan postures up in Trust's guard and throws a big left but Trust blocks it.
Trust can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Nolan controls the pace.
Nolan won't allow Trust to sweep him here.
Nolan is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That was a close round but I would say that Scott Nolan will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Trust stuffs the takedown attempt from Nolan. Nolan gets slowly back to his feet.

Trust shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Nolan makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Nolan really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Trust looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Nolan puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Nolan is taking a breather. Trust says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Nolan winds up and cracks Trust with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Trust wants to improve his position but Nolan is controlling well.

Scott Nolan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Nolan gets caught napping as Trust dives in and scores a takedown. Nolan manages to retain guard.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Trust closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Nolan tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Trust wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Nolan wants to get back to full guard.
Trust takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Trust is trying to control. Nolan wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Trust tries to pass the half guard into mount. Nolan knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Trust working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Trust is trying to work for a kimura but Nolan is defending well.
Trust takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Trust stalling away here and it's allowed Nolan to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Trust stands and throws Nolan's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Trust scores with a couple of short elbows.
Trust throws a strike aimed at the side of Nolan's head but Nolan avoids it well.
Trust is looking to take a break and control but Nolan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Nolan is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Trust off and has taken his back!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Nolan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
