PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Azumah Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacque Sirven (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Azumah Nelson has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Azumah Nelson seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Azumah Nelson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jacque Sirven!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Eddie Farnsworth and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sirven misses with an uppercut. Nelson saw that one coming.
Sirven doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Nelson cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Nelson takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Sirven shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sirven showed some decent athleticism there.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Sirven is looking for a kimura but Nelson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Sirven to get the leverage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sirven seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

It looks like Nelson has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.

Sirven is trying to control. Nelson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Nelson is concentrating on defense, preventing Sirven from advancing position.
Sirven looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Nelson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Sirven closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sirven lands in his opponent's guard.

That was a close round but Azumah Nelson did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it.

I would just about give that final round to Jacque Sirven.
