PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Spank Crank (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Scorpion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Spank Crank!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johnny Scorpion!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Bruno Lombardi and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scorpion tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Crank counters with a single leg into guard. Scorpion didn't expect that.
Crank working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Crank cracks Scorpion with a solid left hand.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Scorpion can do anything to dispel that myth.
Crank trying to control the position from guard on top but Scorpion is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Scorpion looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Crank makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Crank throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Scorpion works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Crank working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Scorpion's head.

Crank has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Crank advances to half guard.

Crank is just content to waste time from the top position. Scorpion takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Crank wants to take a breather but Scorpion is having none of it.
Crank takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Scorpion is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Crank pulls his head out easily.
Crank is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Crank perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Crank thows a huge punch but Scorpion dodges it nicely.

Scorpion tries to get to full guard but Crank has control of the leg.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Crank connects with a nice short shot to Scorpion's temple.

Crank sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Scorpion defending well though.
Scorpion wants to control but Crank is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Crank is nestled in close to Scorpion, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Crank winds up and cracks Scorpion with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Scorpion really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Crank. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Crank is keen to just control but Scorpion is a slippery customer.

Scorpion has hold of Crank's hands but Crank slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Scorpion felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Scorpion has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Crank is working away from the top position though.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Spank Crank dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Scorpion gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Crank to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Crank is standing up over Scorpion. Scorpion looks to escape but Crank dives into side control.

Scorpion takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Crank lands a nice forearm strike.
Crank cracks Scorpion with a big right hand but Scorpion just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.


Scorpion is rocked!


It looks like Johnny Scorpion has been cut.
Scorpion struggling a bit here.
Scorpion is still in real trouble! Can Crank finish him?
Crank cracks Scorpion with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Crank immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Scorpion is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Crank!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Spank Crank!
