PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Connor Hunt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Bartell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bartell comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Smasher/Devourer kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! James Bartell has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Connor Hunt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, James Bartell!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Daniel Bishop and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bartell avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Hunt lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Bartell circles away quickly and effectively.
Horrible takedown attempt by Hunt or perhaps it was just good defense by Bartell, which made it look bad.
Hunt takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Bartell tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Bartell gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Hunt could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Bartell pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Hunt shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bartell pinned against the cage. Bartell gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hunt shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Bartell is trying to defend but Hunt finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Bartell makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Bartell shoots in looking for a takedown. Hunt tries to sprawl out of it but Bartell keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hunt manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Bartell takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Hunt tries to close the distance and clinch up but Bartell swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Bartell is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Hunt's half guard.
Hunt scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Bartell manages to mount him!

Bartell is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Bartell lands a right hook to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hunt misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Bartell closes the distance and clinches.
Bartell tries for a takedown. No joy.
Bartell stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Hunt breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Bartell slaps away a takedown attempt from Hunt, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Connor Hunt. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hunt is breathing heavily.
Bartell leaves Hunt with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Bartell has taken the fight to the clinch.

Bartell breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Hunt misses with a left hand
and Bartell counters with a good low kick that Hunt was not able to check.

Bartell clinches up with Hunt and pushes him back against the cage.
Bartell blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Bartell manages to break the clinch.
Bartell fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Hunt changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Hunt has his takedown stuffed
and Bartell counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Bartell forces Hunt back against the cage and clinches.

Bartell's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Hunt on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Bartell avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Hunt fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bartell avoids it really well and circles away.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Bartell moves into range and clinches up with Hunt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hunt shoots for a double leg takedown but Bartell sprawls well. He's pushed Hunt's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Bartell is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

As Bartell tries to get set, Hunt tries to push him back and clinch up but Bartell manages to avoid the attempt.

Bartell misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Hunt changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bartell tries to avoid it but Hunt manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bartell to the ground. Bartell escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Bartell has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Bartell decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bartell postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Hunt to stand up.
Hunt on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Bartell scores with a push kick.
Bartell tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hunt defends well and Bartell ends up having to push Hunt into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Bartell tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hunt sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bartell somewhat.

Hunt works over Bartell's head and body with a nice combination.

Hunt pushes Bartell up against the cage in a clinch.
Hunt fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Bartell lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Bartell decides to return to a standing position.
Bartell lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Bartell has closed the distance and engaged Hunt in a clinch.

Bartell escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Bartell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Bartell darts in looking for a takedown but Hunt gets double underhooks and turns Bartell into the cage.
It looked like Hunt was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Hunt throws a head kick that misses.
Bartell is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Hunt with a body shot.
Hunt wants to clinch.
Some bone on bone action there as Bartell checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Hunt closes the distance looking to clinch
and Bartell counters with a left and a right that stings Hunt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Bartell counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Hunt shoots in for a double leg but Bartell sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Hunt shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Bartell as he jumps to the side.

Bartell gets control of Hunt's arms and successfully pulls guard. Bartell will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Bartell pushes Hunt off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Bartell bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.

James Bartell is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Hunt throws an elbow but it's blocked.

James Bartell comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Bartell has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

James Bartell spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
