The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice body punch from Kovalev.
Kovalev scores with a three punch combo!

Kovalev lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Romanov fails with a takedown attempt.
Kovalev lands a right hook to the body.
Kovalev scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Romanov shoots in but Kovalev avoids the takedown attempt easily.
It looked like Kovalev was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Romanov has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Kovalev stalks Romanov and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Romanov's face. Romanov staggers backwards, shaken.
Kovalev lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Romanov backs up against the cage.
Romanov tries for a takedown but Kovalev circles away easily
and Kovalev counters with a three punch combo that has Romanov backing up. Romanov nods at Kovalev to acknowledge the strikes.
Anton Kovalev has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Oleg Romanov.

Kovalev lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Kovalev.
Kovalev is working the combinations to good effect here.
Romanov looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Romanov shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kovalev as he jumps to the side.
Romanov fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kovalev avoids it really well and circles away.
Kovalev lands with a nice body punch.
Kovalev cracks Romanov with a right hand to the side of the head.
Romanov takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kovalev misses with a few strikes there.

Romanov closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kovalev did well to prevent Romanov getting side control.
Kovalev is trying to stand.

Romanov is taking a breather. Kovalev says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Romanov in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Kovalev tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Romanov!
