PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Damien Conner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Because I Can (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Damien Conner has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Damien Conner seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Damien Conner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Because I Can!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Arvi Lind and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
I Can throws a predictable looking body shot
and Conner counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Conner scoring well with a low kick there.
I Can shoots in but no luck this time.
A little feinted left hand from Conner on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Conner lands a glancing blow to the side of I Can's head.
I Can lands a slapping body shot.
Conner connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Conner clobbers I Can with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
I Can looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Conner digs a good hook to I Can's body.
I Can shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Conner defends it nicely.
Conner stuffs the takedown attempt from I Can. I Can gets slowly back to his feet.
Damien Conner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Because I Can.
I Can walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Conner fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Conner throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
A jab from Conner does it's job there.
Conner tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but I Can was well out of range. Poor timing from Conner.
Conner slips a straight right by I Can.
Conner appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
I Can has his takedown stuffed
and Conner counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Conner is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Conner lands with a nice combination. I Can backs away looking to recover.
Jab, jab by Conner - just one landing.
Conner misses with a few strikes there.
I Can throws a poor cross that misses
and Conner counters with a one-two to the body.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
I Can throws a shot from downtown. Conner moves away and avoids it.
Conner is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Conner lands with a thumping leg kick.
Conner moves into range and connects with a jab.
I Can with a jab.
Because I Can seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
I Can will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Conner swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by I Can.
Conner connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
A telegraphed right hand from I Can misses the target.
It appears Conner was looking to counter with a kick there.
I Can looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Conner swings for the body but I Can moves out of range.

I Can shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than I Can was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Conner is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, I Can asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Conner is looking to reverse the position.
Conner on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Conner tries to get out of the position.

I Can tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no I Can has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Conner regains half guard there - taking advantage of I Can's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Conner pushes I Can off looking to stand but I Can dives back in and keeps control.
Conner is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Conner wants to get back to his feet.

I Can seems to be looking for submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Conner is controlling I Can's trapped leg to prevent I Can from advancing to side control.
I Can is keen to just control but Conner is a slippery customer.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

I Can is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Conner is just riding it out for now. I Can eventually gives up the hold.
I Can sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Conner defending well though.

I Can seems to be working for a kimura but Conner defends the submission attempt.

I Can seems to be looking for submissions.
I Can seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Conner does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Damien Conner dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


I Can throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Conner scores with a head kick.
Conner connects with a body shot that sends I Can's belly button to the back.
Conner ducks down and throws a hook to the body but I Can moves away.
I Can is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Conner enables I Can to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Conner manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Conner kicks I Can off and gets to his feet.
Conner is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that I Can can do to turn this around?
Conner cracks I Can with a good jab.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Conner scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
I Can ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
I Can lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Conner circles away quickly and effectively.
I Can throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Conner is looking for a counter combo.
I Can swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Conner uses good head movement to avoid the hook from I Can.
I Can throws a hook but Conner avoids it easily.
I Can shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Conner as he avoids it easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Good leg kick by Conner there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Conner!
Conner misses with a two punch combination.
Damien Conner is winning the standup battle so far.
I Can moves forwards but Conner connects with a nice, crisp jab.
I Can uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Conner.
I Can misses with a lunging right hand
and Conner counters with a three punch combo that has I Can backing up. I Can nods at Conner to acknowledge the strikes.
I Can misses with an uppercut
and Conner counters with a left to the body.
A cross from Conner lands.


I Can is rocked!
Conner connects with a jab and follows up with a big overhand right! Oh that's hurt I Can! He's out on his feet! Conner rushes in and drops I Can with another big right hand, forcing the referee to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Damien Conner!
Our winner, Damien Conner, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
The defeated Because I Can had this to say: 'I'm so handsome i'm not surprised this guy was all over me the way he was!'.
