PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bob Cook (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kain Zero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bob Cook!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kain Zero!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Paul Aken and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cook has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Cook there as he acknowledges the shot.
Zero throws a nice looking combination but Cook bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Zero swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Cook holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Zero is trying to pull guard but Cook has him pressed against the cage.
Cook comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.


It looks like Kain Zero has been cut.
Cook will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Zero up against the cage.
Cook lands a nice elbow.
Cook lands an elbow inside that Zero shrugs off.
A frustrated look appears on Zero's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Cook lands an elbow inside.
Zero changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Cook fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Zero throws a low kick, looking for Cook's leg but Cook calmly moves out of range.
Kain Zero seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Zero connects with a single shot there.

Cook darts in and clinches Zero up against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Zero tries to break free but Cook pushes him back against the cage.
Zero is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Cook is defending well.
Bob Cook has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kain Zero.
Cook lands an elbow inside that Zero shrugs off.
A bit of stalling here from Cook.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cook comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Zero jumps guard but Cook stands there with Zero around his waist. Zero gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Zero looks winded!
Cook lands an elbow inside.


That has opened up Kain Zero's cut even more.
Cook dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Cook lands an elbow inside that Zero shrugs off.
Cook definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Cook content to slow the pace in the clinch.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Zero has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Cook lands an elbow that stopped Zero in his tracks for a moment.
Zero wants a takedown but no success here.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Cook.


Zero is rocked!


The cut above Kain Zero's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Cook lands an elbow inside.
Zero is still on wobbly legs! Can Cook finish him?


Kain Zero's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Zero wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Zero seems to have recovered his senses.
Cook lands a damaging elbow.

Cook's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Cook is struggling to control the position.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Bob Cook.

Cook moves into range and clinches up with Zero.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Zero tries to circle away but Cook has him pinned against the cage.
The referee is keeping an eye on Cook - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Bob Cook.
Zero scores with a hook.
Nice jab there from Zero.
Kain Zero is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Cook blocks a head kick by Zero.
A little feinted left hand from Cook on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Zero swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Zero misses with a looping right.
Zero stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Cook.
Cook jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Cook takes the fight into the clinch.
Cook lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Kain Zero's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Bob Cook!
During a confident post fight interview, Bob Cook thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
