PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Travis Lucas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anatoliy Polzin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 48 - 24 - 0, fighting out of New York, Travis Lucas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Anatoliy Polzin!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Anthony Taglia and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Polzin shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Lucas as he avoids it easily.
Anatoliy Polzin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice uppercut lands for Lucas. That snapped Polzin's head back.


It looks like Anatoliy Polzin has been cut.
Polzin tries for a takedown but Lucas circles away easily
and Lucas counters with a stiff right hand.
Polzin shoots in looking for a takedown. Lucas tries to sprawl out of it but Polzin keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Lucas manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Travis Lucas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anatoliy Polzin.
Lucas turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Polzin throws a body punch but Lucas moves out of range.
It looked like Lucas wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Polzin drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Polzin tries to score with some ground and pound. Lucas controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Lucas has hold of Polzin's hands but Polzin slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Polzin wants to take a breather but Lucas is having none of it.
Polzin wants to free his trapped foot but Lucas is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Lucas wants to get back to full guard.

Polzin chips away with some ground and pound.
Lucas is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Polzin slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Lucas manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Polzin manages to get himself to full guard.

Polzin wants to get back to his feet but Lucas is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Polzin can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Lucas controls the pace.

Lucas slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Lucas's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Polzin shoots in for a takedown but Lucas shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Lucas is pulling down on Polzin's head. It's preventing any offense from Polzin, at least for the moment.
Lucas has momentary wrist control but Polzin slips an elbow through the middle.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Polzin throws an elbow that misses. Lucas uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Polzin's guard. Nice move by Lucas!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Lucas is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Polzin can do to turn this around?

A momentary lapse in concentration from Lucas enables Polzin to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Lucas manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lucas is on top in guard.

Lucas is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Travis Lucas showed his dominance in that final round.

In his post fight interview, Travis Lucas started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
