PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jo Ballinger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lyman Kissell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ballinger comes to the cage accompanied by Cheese Scones. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lyman Kissell!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Illya Tyunina and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Ballinger, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Kissell is looking to slow Ballinger down with leg kicks.
Horrible takedown attempt by Kissell or perhaps it was just good defense by Ballinger, which made it look bad.
Ballinger lands with a good body shot.
Kissell misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
A quick step to the side and Ballinger tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Ballinger looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Ballinger throws a head kick but Kissell moves out of range.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Kissell's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Ballinger manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kissell manages to get himself to full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That was a close round but I would say that Jo Ballinger will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Kissell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ballinger swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kissell is pushing down on Ballinger's leg trying to pass to half guard. Ballinger is fighting to maintain full guard but Kissell has managed to sneak the leg through.
Kissell is nestled in close to Ballinger, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Kissell seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ballinger does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Ballinger is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kissell defends well.

Ballinger escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kissell gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jo Ballinger.
I think Ballinger has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
