The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Javier misses with a body kick.
Maia looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Javier throws a series of punches but Maia avoids them all with ease.

Javier takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Maia tries to clinch there but Javier circles away.
Javier looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Javier pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Javier looks for the body kick but Maia saw that one coming.
Maia appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Maia fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Javier sprawls well initially but Maia persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Javier is not content to let Maia control the position.
Maia decides to return to a standing position.
Maia moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Javier misses with a looping left.

Maia closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Javier 's guard.

Maia tries to score a power double leg takedown but Javier sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Maia somewhat.

Maia fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Javier is out of range.
Javier takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Javier closes the distance and pushes Maia back into the ropes.

Maia has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Javier can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Javier is looking to stand up but Maia won't let him.
Javier tries to free his leg and advance position but Maia is retaining full guard.
Maia has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Javier doesn't defend quickly enough and Maia has managed to lock this one up! Can Javier escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Maia on a fantastic submission victory.
