PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tamati Kauri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fujibayashi Nagato (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tamati Kauri!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Fujibayashi Nagato!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Hirohito Nitta and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nagato throws a body shot but no joy.
Kauri tries to counter by clinching up but Nagato breaks away and moves out of range.
Nagato throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Kauri appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Kauri closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Nagato prevents Kauri from improving position.
Nagato tries to improve position but can't.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Kauri tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nagato regains half guard.
Nagato felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Kauri tries to pass the half guard into mount. Nagato knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Kauri is working for a guillotine from mount but Nagato frees his head quite easily.

Kauri looking to break Nagato's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Nagato remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Kauri will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Kauri is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Nagato knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Nagato for a finish.

Nagato is working Kauri over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Nagato got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kauri has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Nagato has managed to get both his arms back between Kauri's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Nagato is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Fujibayashi Nagato will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Kauri takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Nagato jabs Kauri to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Fujibayashi Nagato seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nagato dips to his left and cracks Kauri with an uppercut!
Kauri drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Kauri drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Nagato tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kauri passes Nagato's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Nagato wants to get back to full guard.

Kauri trying to mount his opponent but Nagato defends it.
Kauri passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Nagato!

Kauri fails to take his opponent's back.
Nagato is looking to improve his position but Kauri isn't that keen on the idea.
Nagato tries to hold on but Kauri postures up.
Tamati Kauri overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Nagato working to try and regain half guard.
Kauri wants to take his opponent's back but Nagato doesn't allow it.

Kauri has hold of Nagato's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Nagato manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Kauri moves to the back position.

Kauri goes for a risky armbar from back mount and it's not paid off. Nagato escapes and is now in half guard on top.
Nagato seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Nagato working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Nagato content to control rather than advance.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Nagato is looking to take a break and control but Kauri is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Nagato is nestled in close to Kauri, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

After winning the bout, Fujibayashi Nagato thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
