PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gilbert Day (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brock Lynch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gilbert Day!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brock Lynch!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, George Francis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lynch misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Day closes the distance and clinches.
Lynch blocks an uppercut.
Day tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Lynch is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Day pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Day manages to break the clinch.

Lynch instigates a clinch.
A bit of stalling here from Lynch.
Lynch is trying to drag Day to the mat but Day just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Gilbert Day has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brock Lynch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Day tries to pull guard but Lynch holds him up against the cage and eventually Day drops back down to his feet.
Day tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Day jumps guard but Lynch turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Lynch has momentary wrist control but Day slips an elbow through the middle.
Lynch is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Day with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lynch striking off his back but it's not causing Day any problems.

Day drops back looking for a leg! Lynch is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Lynch manages to kick Day off! Day jumps back into Lynch's guard.

Day is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Day working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Lynch's head.
Day could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Day is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Lynch is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Lynch has escaped and now he's on top!

Lynch won't allow Day to sweep him here.

Day has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Lynch off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Lynch shoots in for a takedown but Day shows good takedown defense.
Lynch shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Day but Day pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Lynch changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Day tries to avoid it but Lynch manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Day to the ground. Day escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Lynch looks winded!
Lynch is looking to take this one to the mat.
Day scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Day jumps guard but Lynch stands there with Day around his waist. Day gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Day has Lynch pressed against the cage, preventing Lynch from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Day gets underhooks to prevent Lynch's takedown attempt.
Day is trying to pull guard but Lynch turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Day pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Lynch wants to clinch up but Day keeps it at a distance.
Lynch closes this distance looking for a takedown but Day circles away.

Day closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Day lands in his opponent's guard.

Day stands up and waves to Lynch to follow him.
Day dives in for a single leg takedown but Lynch sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Lynch looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Day is fending him off so far but Lynch persists. Nope, Day circles away and we're back to standing.
Day drops down looking for a counter takedown but Lynch sprawls and moves away.
A big left from Lynch misses.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Lynch keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Day fails with a takedown attempt.
Lynch tries a quick counter leg kick but Day is wise to it.

Day scores with a takedown into Lynch's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gilbert Day dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Day changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lynch tries to avoid it but Day manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lynch to the ground. Lynch escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Day chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Lynch can pounce on him.
Lynch shoots for a double leg takedown but Day sprawls well. He's pushed Lynch's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Lynch lands a leg kick that knocks Day off balance momentarily.

Day jumps guard but Lynch stands there with Day around his waist. Day gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Lynch escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Horrible takedown attempt by Day or perhaps it was just good defense by Lynch, which made it look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gilbert Day. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Lynch drops down looking for an ankle pick but Day pulls his leg out and moves away.

Day postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Lynch is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Day, into his guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Day wants to stand up but Lynch is controlling him.
Day is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lynch advances position into side control!

Day explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Day gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Lynch counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Lynch tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Day defends well and Lynch ends up having to push Day into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The fight stays on the outside here - Day looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Lynch is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Brock Lynch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lynch moves in looking to clinch but Day pushes him off.

Lynch has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Day uses from the top position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Day shoots in looking for a takedown but Lynch manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Day's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Lynch misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Brock Lynch showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Lynch leaves Day with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

and Lynch counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
