PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Rage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stratovarius Smiff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ryan Rage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Stratovarius Smiff!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Wesley Smith and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smiff fails to land with a series of punches.
Smiff is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Rage.
Smiff moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Nice takedown defense from Smiff. No joy for Rage on that attempt.
Smiff drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Rage defends it well.
Smiff looks to land a combination but Rage avoids it well.
Smiff throws a lazy uppercut
and Rage counters with a straight right hand.


It looks like Stratovarius Smiff has been cut.

Smiff closes the distance and clinches.
Smiff dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Rage is trying to push Smiff away but Smiff has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smiff takes an elbow to the forehead.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Rage breaks the clinch.
Rage ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Smiff takes a swing at Rage's ribcage but misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rage shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Smiff defends it nicely.

Rage gets caught flat footed, as Smiff shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Rage can't keep his opponent in guard - Smiff advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Smiff is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Rage is trying to stand back up but Smiff is controlling him
Smiff landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Smiff seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Let's hope that Smiff has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rage scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Smiff manages to mount him!
Smiff has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Rage has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.
Smiff is trying to stick to Rage's back but Rage is turning into Smiff. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Smiff's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Rage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Rage is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Smiff is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Smiff has escaped and now he's on top!

Smiff passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Rage tries to escape but Smiff is in control.
Smiff trying to control the action but Rage is working from the bottom.
Rage takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Rage is working to avoid the ground and pound but Smiff connects with a decent elbow.
We've been informed that Smiff has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Rage is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Smiff has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Rage!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rage is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Smiff wants to finish this one by submission but Rage is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Smiff.
Rage takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
You get the feeling that Rage really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Smiff raining down hammerfists from mount.
Smiff is in the full mount, landing strikes.


Rage is rocked!
Smiff postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Rage in real trouble here! The ref calls for Rage to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Stratovarius Smiff!
An out of breath Stratovarius Smiff thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
