PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Leif Erikson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Smedley Butler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Erikson 's entrance music is Into Battle by Ensiferum. A fine choice. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Bruno Hogan and John Mangel.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Erikson connects with a right hand. Butler shakes it off.
Butler is looking to clinch but Erikson is avoiding it.
Erikson looks to score with a jab to the body but Butler is just out of range.
Butler avoids a punch combination nicely.

Butler instigates a clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Erikson 's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Butler is looking to take this one to the mat.
Butler's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Butler fails to pull the fight into his guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Erikson is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Butler can't fight it off and eventually Erikson manages to take the fight to the floor. Butler looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Butler is trying to control the position but Erikson postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Butler tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Erikson throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Erikson 's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Erikson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Butler is keeping the position for now.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Erikson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Butler tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Erikson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Erikson was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Erikson misses with a double jab.

Erikson drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Butler kicks Erikson off and gets to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Erikson lands a body shot.
Erikson smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Erikson lands a two punch combo.
Butler ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Butler drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Erikson defends it well.
Erikson closes the distance and clinches up with Butler, looking for a takedown. Erikson pushes Butler against the cage but Butler circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Butler avoids the body shot from Erikson .

Butler closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Erikson quickly recovers to half guard.

Erikson has one foot on Butler's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Erikson , as that shot connected.
Butler has his takedown stuffed
and Erikson counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Leif Erikson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Smedley Butler.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Butler tries to score a power double leg takedown but Erikson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Butler somewhat.
Butler looks winded!
Butler looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Butler walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Butler takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Erikson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Butler moves away.
Erikson scores with a hook to the body. Butler takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Butler tries for a takedown but Erikson circles away easily
and Butler takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Butler takes a shot right to the bread basket.

Butler gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Erikson scoring with punches to the head and body.
Erikson controls from within his opponent's guard.
Erikson keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Butler's head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Butler being controlled here, momentarily.
Butler has momentary wrist control but Erikson slips an elbow through the middle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Leif Erikson dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Erikson connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Butler momentarily.
Butler fails in his attempt to clinch.

Erikson feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Butler sprawling to the canvas! Butler rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Erikson finish him?!
Erikson lands the left hand.

Butler is rocked!
Butler takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Butler takes a jab right on the kisser.
Butler is still on wobbly legs! Can Erikson finish him?
Erikson lands hard precision jab right on the jaw that stiffens Butler up and sends him tumbling to the mat! The ref grabs Erikson from behind before he can pounce. Some folks in the crowd didn't like that stoppage, but I saw Butler's eyes roll way back in his head, he was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:31 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Leif Erikson !
Leif Erikson opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
