Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chang Stuart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Rome (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Chang Stuart!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jay Rome!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Daniel Bishop and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stuart drives through with a takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stuart cracks Rome with a solid left hand.
Rome is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Rome wants to stand but Stuart is controlling the position.
Stuart has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Stuart is looking to work some ground and pound but Rome has wrist control.
Rome is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Rome controls Stuart momentarily but Stuart frees himself.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rome is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Stuart throwing strikes from guard but Rome blocks nicely.

Rome tries for a takedown but Stuart sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Rome is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Stuart drops back, looking for a kneebar! Rome looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Rome looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Rome!

Stuart is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Rome off and has taken his back!
Stuart connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Rome to escape the position.

Stuart throws a series of strikes and Rome wriggles onto his back, so he's now mounted. He's in real trouble here.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Rome tries to score a power double leg takedown but Stuart sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Rome somewhat.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Stuart.

Stuart shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Stuart is trying to work for a kimura but Rome is defending well.
Stuart is thwarting Rome's attempts to control the position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Stuart lands a nice short elbow.
Rome is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Stuart is working for a kimura but Rome is defending it quite comfortably.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rome wants to improve his position but Stuart is controlling well.

Stuart is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rome defends it well.

Stuart throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Rome to regain full guard.
Stuart might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Rome is looking for a sweep. Stuart is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Jay Rome seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Rome displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Rome shoots in and drives through. Stuart sprawls well.

Stuart fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Rome sprawls well initially but Stuart persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Stuart decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Rome gets tackled into the cage by Stuart. Stuart maintains the clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Stuart tries to pull guard but Rome forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Stuart jumps guard and drags Rome to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chang Stuart dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Nice takedown defense from Rome. No joy for Stuart on that attempt.

Rome closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Rome lands in his opponent's guard.
Rome stands and throws Stuart's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Stuart is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rome can do to turn this around?

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Stuart tries to lock up and control but Rome gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Chang Stuart overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Rome wants to control the pace but Stuart is squirming around nicely.
Stuart bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Stuart wants to stand but Rome has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Chang Stuart.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Stuart, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
