PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dom Van Halen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jermaine Cole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cole has chosen No Role Modelz as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Jermaine Cole has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dom Van Halen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jermaine Cole!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Bruno Lombardi and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Cole finds it's way through Van Halen's defenses.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Van Halen.
Van Halen tries a head kick but it misses.
Cole misses with a takedown attempt

and Van Halen counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Van Halen.
Van Halen postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Cole wants to stand and escape but Van Halen is having none of it.
Van Halen chips away with some ground and pound.
Van Halen works over Cole with some ground and pound from guard.
Van Halen trying to control but Cole is working from the bottom.
Van Halen postures up and lands a big shot to Cole's brow.
Van Halen sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Cole's guard.

Cole is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Van Halen is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cole defends it well.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Cole has one foot on Van Halen's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cole throws a series of punches but Van Halen moves out of range.
Van Halen misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Cole.

An uppercut to the body lands inside from Cole.

Van Halen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Cole tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Van Halen counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Cole is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Cole has momentary wrist control but Van Halen slips an elbow through the middle.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Van Halen cracks Cole with a solid left hand.
Cole keeping moving, preventing Van Halen from controlling successfully.
Van Halen slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Cole is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Van Halen is aware though and is defending well.
Van Halen working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Cole's head.
Cole wants to stand but Van Halen is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Van Halen is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Van Halen is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Van Halen is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Van Halen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Van Halen keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Cole's head.
Van Halen advances to half guard.

Van Halen working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Van Halen is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Cole is trying to stand back up but Van Halen is controlling him
Cole wants to get back to full guard.
Van Halen looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Cole with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Van Halen slips a nice elbow through Cole's hands, connecting with Cole's forehead.

Cole manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Van Halen keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Van Halen holds on and takes a little breather.

Van Halen has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Cole doesn't defend quickly enough and Van Halen has managed to lock this one up! Can Cole escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Van Halen on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Dom Van Halen!
Jermaine Cole spoke after the fight, saying 'Next time he won't be so lucky...'.
