PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between John Yossarian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexandre Dumas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dumas is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by The Writer. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Yossarian!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alexandre Dumas!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Robert Twigg and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dumas with a poor takedown
and Yossarian counters with a straight right hand.
A combination from Yossarian does no damage.
A good leg kick by Yossarian.
Dumas closes the distance and clinches up with Yossarian, looking for a takedown. Dumas pushes Yossarian against the cage but Yossarian circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Yossarian lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Dumas ducks under a wild hook from Yossarian.
As Yossarian backs off Dumas throws a huge counter combo but Yossarian manages to avoid it all.
Dumas will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Yossarian lands with a good body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Yossarian enables Dumas to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Yossarian manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Yossarian pulls Dumas in close to prevent any damage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Dumas controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Yossarian is pulling down on Dumas's head to control his posture.
Dumas working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Dumas advances position into side control!

Yossarian is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Yossarian can't do much from the bottom here.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Dumas throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Yossarian is trying to control Dumas's posture but Dumas avoids it.
An elbow from Dumas crashes against the mat.
Yossarian gets back to half guard.

Dumas is looking for a kimura but Yossarian is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Dumas to get the leverage.
Dumas is keen to just control but Yossarian is a slippery customer.

Dumas trying to mount his opponent but Yossarian defends it.
Yossarian trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Dumas manages to pass to mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Yossarian tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Yossarian wants to control but Dumas is having none of it.
Dumas thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Dumas wants to control the pace but Yossarian is squirming around nicely.
Yossarian is wriggling around trying to escape.
Yossarian is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Yossarian avoids a series of strikes thrown by Dumas.
Dumas looking to control but Yossarian is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Yossarian blocking the ground and pound.
Dumas lands a couple of good shots and Yossarian has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Dumas wants to control but Yossarian manages to buck him off and is now in Dumas's guard! Nice work there by Yossarian!
Dumas trying to keep a closed guard but Yossarian is proving a slippery customer.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Yossarian makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Alexandre Dumas will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Yossarian ducks under a wild hook from Dumas.
Yossarian with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Yossarian's jab looks to have found its range, popping Dumas under the eye.
Yossarian misses with a left hand
and Dumas counters with a left and a right that stings Yossarian.

Dumas needs to keep his hands up - Yossarian had a free shot at his head there.
Yossarian looks to land a combination but Dumas avoids it well.
Yossarian fails with an attempt to clinch.

Dumas scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The strikes coming from Dumas are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Dumas misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Yossarian seems a little lost for a moment, as Dumas dominates the positioning.
Yossarian tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Dumas wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Yossarian is trying to control Dumas's posture but Dumas avoids it.

Dumas is trying to get an arm triangle but Yossarian is defending well.
Yossarian tries to bench press Dumas off him but Dumas keeps the position.
Dumas trying to control the action but Yossarian is working from the bottom.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Dumas working away.
Yossarian controls the position for a moment.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Dumas closes the distance and lands a one-two.
A big left from Yossarian misses.
Dumas misses with a double jab.
A quick step to the side and Yossarian tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Dumas is defended easily by Yossarian.

Yossarian connects with a looping right hand.
Yossarian displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Dumas.
Dumas is trying hard to land a takedown here. Yossarian sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
John Yossarian has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alexandre Dumas.
Yossarian tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Nice defenses there by Dumas.
Alexandre Dumas is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Dumas counters with a three punch combo that has Yossarian backing up. Yossarian nods at Dumas to acknowledge the strikes.
Oh Yossarian is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Dumas throws a right hand that Yossarian ducks under and follows up with a left that Yossarian also avoids with ease.

Dumas fails with the takedown.
Dumas slips under a jab from Yossarian.
Yossarian seems to have got his legs back now.
Dumas with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Yossarian to score with a decent uppercut.
Dumas has his takedown stuffed
and Yossarian counters with a nice leg kick.
Some wild striking there from Dumas.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Yossarian tries a head kick but it misses.

and Yossarian counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
John Yossarian is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that John Yossarian will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Yossarian misses the jab.
Dumas slips under a jab from Yossarian.
Dumas ducks under a wild hook from Yossarian.
Yossarian digs a good hook to Dumas's body.
Yossarian lands a jab to the head.

Dumas shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Yossarian's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dumas trying to control the position from guard on top but Yossarian is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Dumas is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Yossarian is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Yossarian has escaped and now he's on top!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Yossarian won't allow Dumas to sweep him here.

Yossarian postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Dumas looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Dumas working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Yossarian doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Yossarian manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Yossarian has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Dumas is proving hard to escape from.
Dumas has momentary wrist control but Yossarian slips an elbow through the middle.
Yossarian distracts Dumas with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Yossarian is fighting to break Dumas's control of his arms but Dumas is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Yossarian postures up in Dumas's guard and throws a big left but Dumas blocks it.
Yossarian loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Dumas not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Dumas might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Yossarian haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Yossarian lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Dumas looking for a sweep. Not yet Dumas, not yet.

Dumas manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Yossarian manages to get himself to full guard.

Dumas throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Dumas slips nicely into half guard.
Dumas is looking to stall here but Yossarian recovers full guard.

Dumas got a little sloppy there for a moment and Yossarian has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Dumas has managed to get both his arms back between Yossarian's legs - danger averted.
Dumas trying to control but Yossarian is working from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

John Yossarian showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Yossarian has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
