PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dougal McGuire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pascual Perez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGuire's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, My Lovely Horse. Perez comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Another One Bites The Dust kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Pascual Perez has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dougal McGuire!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 13 - 1, fighting out of New York, Pascual Perez!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Paul Tew and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch lands to the side of Perez 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Perez misses with a head kick.
The fight stays on the outside here - Perez looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
A little feinted left hand from McGuire on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Perez gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and McGuire counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Perez tries to clinch up
and McGuire connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
We've been told by McGuire's head coaches at Rusterman's that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Perez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. McGuire manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Perez doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and McGuire counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Perez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says McGuire as he avoids it easily.
Dougal McGuire has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pascual Perez.
McGuire scores with a hook.
Perez closes the distance looking to clinch
and McGuire counters with a nice uppercut.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Perez tries to close the distance and clinch up but McGuire swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Perez shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and McGuire counters with a crisp right hand that drops Perez! McGuire lets Perez back up to his feet, looking for a finish!


Perez is rocked!
Pascual Perez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Perez doesn't manage to clinch there - McGuire circles away.

McGuire gets caught flat footed, as Perez shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Perez drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Perez jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

McGuire is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Perez forces his way into half guard.

Perez seems to be looking for submissions.
McGuire is looking to escape.

Perez is working for a submission of some sort.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Perez stops McGuire from getting back to his feet.
McGuire avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Perez.
McGuire wants to get back to his feet.
Perez thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed McGuire's head.
Perez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
McGuire tries to kick Perez off but Perez keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
McGuire is not content to let Perez control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Decent striking displayed by McGuire there.
McGuire cracks Perez with a right hand to the side of the head.
Perez will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
McGuire with a body punch. A glancing blow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
McGuire connects with a right hand. Perez shakes it off.
The fight stays on the outside here - Perez looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Perez gets a clinch.
Perez digs a right hand underneath McGuire's ribcage. McGuire let out a lung full of air as it connected.
McGuire prevents a body shot from Perez.
Perez misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from McGuire.
McGuire lands with a light punch inside.
Perez looking for a takedown.
Perez tries to score a body lock takedown but McGuire shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

McGuire breaks from the clinch.
Perez has a takedown stuffed.
A little feinted left hand from McGuire on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dougal McGuire dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Perez moves to clinch but McGuire breaks away
and McGuire counters with a nice uppercut.
Perez shoots in for a double leg but McGuire sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
A counter left hand to the body from McGuire misses its target.
Perez's hands are dropping dangerously low here and McGuire connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Perez scrambles back to his feet.
McGuire connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Perez's hands.

McGuire drops Perez with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Perez looks back up at him and smiles so McGuire waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Perez is still on wobbly legs! Can McGuire finish him?
Pascual Perez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Perez tries to clinch
and McGuire connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
McGuire drops a shoulder and throws an uppercut that cracks Perez right on the button. Perez goes down! McGuire follows him to the mat and finishes the job with more strikes! McGuire gets the win via TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dougal McGuire!
After winning the bout, Dougal McGuire thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
