Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Lionel Weiss (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karl Alex (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Karl Alex acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lionel Weiss!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Karl Alex!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Yves DeLean and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Alex drives through with a takedown into Weiss's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Weiss will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Alex with a flurry of punches that miss.
Alex is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Alex throws a big right hand that misses.
Weiss looking to hit a scissor sweep but Alex is one step ahead there.
Alex controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Alex is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Weiss is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Weiss has escaped and now he's on top!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alex has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Weiss knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Alex on the ground.
Alex pulls Weiss in close to prevent any damage.
Alex keeping moving, preventing Weiss from controlling successfully.
Alex doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Weiss wanted to stand there but Alex had control of the position.
Weiss stopping the sweep attempt from Alex.
Weiss is fighting to break Alex's control of his arms but Alex is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Alex has closed the distance and engaged Weiss in a clinch.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Alex as Weiss tries to tie him up.
Weiss wants to stall.
Weiss working hard to break the clinch.
Weiss really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Alex jumps guard and drags Weiss to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Alex has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Weiss wants to stand but Alex has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Weiss trying to control the position from guard on top but Alex is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Alex pushes Weiss off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Alex shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Weiss is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Alex has a closed guard, preventing Weiss from standing up.

Alex is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Weiss drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Alex dives on top into guard.

Alex controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Weiss moves in looking to clinch but Alex pushes him off.

Alex darts in and clinches Weiss up against the cage.
Weiss wants to stall.
Weiss is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Alex is keeping busy.
Alex has Weiss pressed against the cage, preventing Weiss from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Alex has picked Weiss up - he's going for a ride! Alex dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Alex is looking to advance position but Weiss won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alex is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Weiss is looking to improve his position.

Alex stands up out of the half guard.

Alex closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Alex has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Alex pulls guard effortlessly.
Alex has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Alex is trying to keep Weiss in close.
Alex manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Weiss manages to get himself to full guard.

Alex is pushing down on Weiss's leg trying to pass to half guard. Weiss is fighting to maintain full guard but Alex has managed to sneak the leg through.

Alex passes to side control.
Alex sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Weiss is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Alex is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Weiss will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Alex has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Alex misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Weiss blocking the ground and pound.
Alex sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Weiss is trying to escape the mount.
Alex sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Weiss looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Weiss tries to escape the position.

A bit of a pause in the action here. Alex controlling the positon.

Alex working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.

Alex is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Alex biding his time, looking for the opening.

Karl Alex showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Alex darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Alex is working for a submission of some sort.
Alex thows a huge punch but Weiss dodges it nicely.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Alex stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Weiss to get to his feet.
Lionel Weiss is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Some wild striking there from Alex.

Alex moves into the clinch.

Alex breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Weiss looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Alex has managed to clinch.
Weiss is stalling here.
Alex wants to break the clinch but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Alex has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Weiss regains guard immediately.
Alex controlling from the top position.
Let's hope that Alex has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Alex's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Weiss throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Alex decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Weiss, up you get!

Alex closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Weiss quickly recovers to half guard.
Alex perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Alex decides to stand and escape the position.

Alex forces Weiss back against the cage and clinches.
Weiss is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Alex ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Alex no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Weiss throws a big right hand that misses.

Alex has Weiss pulled in close to control his posture.

Alex has his foot on Weiss's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Weiss works his way back into a safe position though.
Alex is controlling Weiss's posture.

Weiss is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Alex bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Weiss's guard.


And that's the end of the fight!
Karl Alex comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Alex has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
