PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Blast Knobpunch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Big Jim Slade (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Big Jim Slade will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Blast Knobpunch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Big Jim Slade!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, David Hoff and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Knobpunch shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Slade tries to roll over but Knobpunch keeps him under control.

Knobpunch prevents Slade from improving his position.
Slade tries to kick Knobpunch off in order to stand up. Knobpunch Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Slade is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Slade managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Knobpunch.
Knobpunch creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Slade sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Slade looks to move to half guard but instead Knobpunch has passed into mount! Damn!

Slade is bucking up trying to escape but Knobpunch cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Knobpunch is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Slade has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Knobpunch scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Slade?

Knobpunch looking for a guillotine from mount but Slade is having none of it.
Knobpunch is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Slade is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Knobpunch lands with some strikes.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Knobpunch lands a big shot there that rocks Slade but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Slade sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Knobpunch thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Knobpunch looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Slade with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Knobpunch is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Slade sees it coming and defends easily.
Slade keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Knobpunch is trying to work for a kimura but Slade is defending well.

Knobpunch wants to lay and pray for a moment but Slade keeps working.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Slade trying to control but Knobpunch postures up.
Knobpunch drops an elbow to the side of Slade's head.
Slade keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Slade is pressing down on Knobpunch's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Knobpunch stops Slade from standing up.
Knobpunch with a flurry of punches that miss.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Knobpunch is working Slade over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Slade has momentary wrist control but Knobpunch slips an elbow through the middle.
Knobpunch chips away with some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Blast Knobpunch dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Slade fails with a takedown attempt.
Knobpunch drops down looking for a counter takedown but Slade sprawls and moves away.
Knobpunch pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Knobpunch shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Slade as he avoids it easily.

Knobpunch is looking to counter the offense by Slade and move into the clinch.

Knobpunch feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Knobpunch is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Slade can do to turn this around?

Blast Knobpunch overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Slade is looking to get back to is feet but Knobpunch passes into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Knobpunch is looking to stand up but Slade isn't so interested in that idea.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Slade feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Knobpunchs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Slade tries to bum rush Knobpunch with a series of wild strikes but Knobpunch uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Slade shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Knobpunch as he jumps to the side.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Knobpunch has his hands clasped together around Slade's back. He's all about the action.
Slade is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Slade trying to advance position but Knobpunch counters by regaining guard.
Knobpunch is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Knobpunch is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Slade shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Knobpunch as he jumps to the side.
Knobpunch is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Slade.

Knobpunch decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Slade is controlling Knobpunch's trapped leg to prevent Knobpunch from advancing to side control.
Slade won't allow Knobpunch to pass to mount.

Knobpunch has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Knobpunch lands a nice short elbow.

Slade is looking to control Knobpunch's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Slade avoid being mounted?
Knobpunch is trying to control. Slade wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Slade has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Knobpunch is working away from the top position though.
Slade is positioning himself well to prevent Knobpunch advancing to mount.

Knobpunch seems to be looking for submissions.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Blast Knobpunch.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Knobpunch, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
