PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Alexandre Dumas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dumas kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is The Writer. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alexandre Dumas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 15 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dave Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Igor Prikhodko and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dumas stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Dumas takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Dumas fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Johnson sprawls well initially but Dumas persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Johnson regains full guard. Nicely done.
Johnson looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Dumas distracts Johnson with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Johnson is pulling down on Dumas's head. It's preventing any offense from Dumas, at least for the moment.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Johnson shoots for a double leg takedown but Dumas sprawls well. He's pushed Johnson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Dumas dives in and grabs Johnson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Johnson pushes down on Dumas's head and hops out.
Johnson dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Dumas. That did some damage!

Dumas clobbers Johnson with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Johnson gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Dumas stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Johnson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Dumas connects with a couple of short punches.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Dave Johnson will probably get the nod.

Johnson lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Johnson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Dumas is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Johnson's half guard.
Dumas lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Dumas is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Johnson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Johnson has escaped and now he's on top!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Dave Johnson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Dumas's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Johnson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Johnson throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Dumas blocks it with crossed arms.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Johnson takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Dumas is pressed up against the cage. Johnson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Dumas down to the mat. Dumas avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Dumas shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Johnson defends it nicely.
Johnson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Dumas but Dumas pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Alexandre Dumas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dave Johnson.

A head kick from Johnson lands but Dumas takes it in his stride.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Johnson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Johnson might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Dumas haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Dumas is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

I've got Johnson winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
