PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hop Sing Jung (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Royal Pain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jung's entrance music is Jiu Jitsu. A fine choice. Pain has chosen AC/DC Thunderstruck as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hop Sing Jung!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Royal Pain!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pain tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Pain shoots in but no luck this time.
Pain tries to close the distance and clinch but Jung swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Donk. Pain catches Jung right on the button with a cross.
Jung misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Pain.
Pain lands the left hand.

Pain has managed to clinch.
Pain has Jung pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Jung manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Jung has had enough of the clinch but Pain keeps him there for the moment.
Come on Jung - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jung wants to break free but Pain has control.
Jung lands a hook to the side of the head.

Jung misses with the head strike.
Pain blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Jung working aggressively here.
Jung is struggling to control the position.
Jung prevents a takedown attempt there.
Hop Sing Jung has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Royal Pain.

Jung breaks from the clinch.
Nice body punch from Pain.
Hop Sing Jung is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Pain displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Jung throws out the jab.

Pain is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Pain tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jung swivels and escapes.

Pain changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jung tries to avoid it but Pain manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jung to the ground. Jung escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Jung takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Jung fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Pain manages to avoid it.
Pain lands a nice looking body shot.
Good shot there by Pain.
Pain uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Jung.
Pain fails with a takedown attempt.
Pain has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Jung is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Jung clinches up with Pain and pushes him back against the cage.
Pain blocking some punches.
Pain is a very stocky fighter. Infact he's such a weird shape that he's almost like some sort of comedy character - it's hard to believe he's real.
Jung is struggling to control the position.
A head punch on the inside from Jung fails to land.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pain blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Jung breaks the clinch.
Pain shoots for a takedown but Jung saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Pain displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Jung throws out the jab.
Pain fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jung avoids it really well and circles away.
Jung gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Pain.
Jung walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Good exchange - Pain coming out on top.
Jung walks into a straight right hand from Pain.
Pain tries to clinch but Jung moves out of range.
A counter left hand to the body from Jung misses its target.

Jung misses with a body shot.
And Pain tries to counter it with a takedown but Jung pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Pain ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Pain has Jung up against the cage in a clinch.
Jung just leaning against Pain, taking a breather.
Pain blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Jung's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jung can't find room to land a body shot as Pain controls the action.

Pain pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Royal Pain will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Pain scores with a jab to the jaw.
Jung misses with a looping right.
Pain changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Pain fails with the takedown

and Jung moves into the clinch.
Pain tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Jung lands a body punch in the clinch.
Pain misses with a punch to the body.
Pain is looking to break free of the clinch but Jung has double underhooks.
Jung goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Jung's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Pain fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Pain swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Jung moves out of range of the strikes.
Jung throws a hook but Pain avoids it easily.
Pain scores with a jab.
Jung slips a jab from Pain.
Pain shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Jung defends it nicely.
Pain connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Jung uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Pain.
Jung walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Royal Pain seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Pain darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Pain wants to control but Jung is keeping him busy.

Pain looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Jung tries to get to full guard but Pain has control of the leg.
Pain is looking to pass Jung's guard but actually Jung recovers to full guard.
Jung managing to control the position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Jung looking for a guillotine here but Pain defends easily.
Jung knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pain on the ground.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pain accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jung keeping moving, preventing Pain from controlling successfully.
Pain is pushing down on Jung's leg trying to pass to half guard. Jung is fighting to maintain full guard but Pain has managed to sneak the leg through.

Pain is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Pain is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jung defends it well.
Jung is trying to maintain the position but Pain is very close to passing his half guard.
Pain trying to control from half guard but Jung is working away.

Pain is trying to work for a kimura but Jung is defending well.
Jung slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Pain pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Jung is keeping the position for now.

Pain is looking to pass into half guard but Jung pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Jung is in guard.

Jung wants to control from the top but Pain keeps moving.

Pain is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Pain had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jung defends it easily.
Pain looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jung tries to free his leg and advance position but Pain is retaining full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Royal Pain showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Pain doesn't manage to clinch there - Jung circles away.

Nice shot lands for Pain.
Pain avoids the body shot from Jung.
Jung throws a hook to the side of Pain's head but Pain sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Jung seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Pain shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Jung sprawls well. Jung wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Pain gets slowly back to his feet.

Pain ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Pain! But no joy.
Pain shoots for a takedown but Jung saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Pain tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Jung was well out of range. Poor timing from Pain.

Royal Pain seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jung swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Jung keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Jung stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Jung wants it to stay on the feet.
Nice defenses there by Jung.
Pain lands an overhand right.
A big left from Jung misses.
Pain tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Jung was well out of range. Poor timing from Pain.
The crowd cheers as Jung lands an impressive looking overhand right. Pain doesn't seem phased though.
Jung is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Pain's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.
Nice takedown defense from Jung. No joy for Pain on that attempt.
Pain shoots in and drives through. Jung sprawls well.
Jung stuffs the takedown attempt from Pain. Pain gets slowly back to his feet.
Pain takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Pain steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Jung.
A little jabbing left from Pain on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Jung walks into a straight right hand from Pain.
Pain doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Jung counters by clinching up.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jung tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Jung can't find room to land a body shot as Pain controls the action.

Jung swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Jung has had enough of the clinch but Pain keeps him there for the moment.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Pain.

Pain tries to work over Jung's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Jung leaning his opponent against the cage.
Jung looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Jung has Pain pressed against the cage, preventing Pain from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Pain doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Jung tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Pain tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Jung's elbow.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Pain tries for a takedown. No joy.

Jung breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Hop Sing Jung has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Pain tries to clinch but Jung is having none of it.
Pain avoids the body shot from Jung.
Nice sprawl there from Jung as Pain shoots in.
Pain has a takedown stuffed.
Jung uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Pain.
Jung takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Jung gets caught napping as Pain dives in and scores a takedown. Jung manages to retain guard.
Jung trying to keep a closed guard but Pain is proving a slippery customer.

Jung working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pain doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pain manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Royal Pain is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Royal Pain has got the better of the ground game so far.

Pain avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Hop Sing Jung.
I think Pain has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
