PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sam McCullen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Igor Rottwel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rottwel has chosen Land of the Free as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Sam McCullen!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Igor Rottwel!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Ren Mimura and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rottwel misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

McCullen has taken the fight to the clinch.

McCullen cracks Rottwel with a good jab.


It looks like Igor Rottwel has been cut.
McCullen tests Rottwel's chin there with a solid looking shot.
McCullen fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Rottwel shoots in looking for a takedown but McCullen manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rottwel's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Rottwel tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but McCullen swivels and escapes.
McCullen half committed to a counter leg kick.
Sam McCullen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Igor Rottwel.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McCullen lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

Rottwel closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into McCullen's guard.

McCullen utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Rottwel has gone for a leg lock! McCullen slips out almost immediately though and dives into Rottwel's guard.


Rottwel looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! McCullen has picked Rottwel up and slammed him! Rottwel can't keep hold of the triangle and McCullen manages to pass to side control!

McCullen tries to stand but Rottwel is controlling his head.
Rottwel is trying to get back to half guard.

It looks like McCullen is going to stand back up.

Rottwel is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but McCullen pulls his head out easily.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

McCullen avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Rottwel working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. McCullen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. McCullen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Rottwel fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but McCullen avoids it really well and circles away.
Horrible takedown attempt by Rottwel or perhaps it was just good defense by McCullen, which made it look bad.
McCullen appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
McCullen is looking to clinch.
McCullen lands a nice looking body shot.
Rottwel shoots in and drives through. McCullen sprawls well.

Rottwel takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Rottwel looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
McCullen lands with a shot to the body.

McCullen fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Rottwel on the side of the head.
Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from McCullen! Rottwel is out on his feet! McCullen rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Rottwel is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Rottwel is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sam McCullen!

A very excited looking Sam McCullen rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
In defeat, Igor Rottwel stepped up to the mic, saying 'Good fight of my opponent.'.
