PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Montgomery (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tercio Luis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Thomas Montgomery!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Tercio Luis!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Paul Tew and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Luis rushes Montgomery and presses him up against the cage.
Montgomery wants to break the clinch but can't.
The referee is keeping an eye on Luis - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Montgomery breaks from the clinch.
Luis tries to clinch but Montgomery is having none of it.
Luis keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Montgomery closes the distance and clinches.
Montgomery has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Luis breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Luis closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Luis content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Luis throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Montgomery works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

Luis thows a huge punch but Montgomery dodges it nicely.

Montgomery is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Luis pulls his head out easily.

Luis seems to be looking for submissions.
Luis works his foot free and advances to mount.
Luis looking to finish with strikes here!

Luis throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Luis blocks Montgomery's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Montgomery really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Montgomery is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Montgomery is working to get back to half guard.
Montgomery might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Luis controlling the pace for now.
Luis looking to control but Montgomery is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Montgomery is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Luis is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Luis gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Montgomery is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Luis gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Luis jumps guard.

Luis has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Montgomery can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Luis wants to sweep but no luck.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Luis is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Montgomery controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Luis wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Montgomery manages to pass to side control.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Montgomery is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Montgomery prevents Luis from standing back up.
Luis is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tercio Luis dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Luis fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Montgomery to the ground. Luis is now in Montgomery's guard.
Montgomery thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Luis wants to control from the top but Montgomery keeps moving.
Luis throwing strikes but missing.
Tercio Luis has got the better of the ground game so far.

Montgomery had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Luis defends it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Luis decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Luis throws a good cross that connects.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Left hook, right uppercut from Luis.

Montgomery closes the distance and clinches.
Montgomery wants to break free but Luis has control.

Luis jumps guard and drags Montgomery to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Luis wants to stand up but Montgomery is controlling him.
Montgomery is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Luis has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Luis not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Montgomery controlling from the top position.
Montgomery would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Montgomery stays in close to Luis's body and controls the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Luis leaves Montgomery with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Montgomery gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Luis stands and steps away. Montgomery gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Montgomery wants to clinch.

Luis moves into range and clinches up with Montgomery.
Luis is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Montgomery is trying to force a seperation but Luis has the dominant position.
Luis is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Luis is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Luis scores a nice knee to the body.

Luis pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Luis throws a head kick but Montgomery moves out of range.
Luis throws a series of punches but Montgomery avoids them all with ease.
Luis scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Montgomery fails with an attempt to clinch.
Luis wants to counter with a clinch but Montgomery pushes him away.
Luis lands with a thumping leg kick.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Montgomery avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Montgomery went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Tercio Luis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Luis connects with a solid leg kick.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Luis darts in and clinches Montgomery up against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tercio Luis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Luis tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Luis moves into the clinch successfully.
Montgomery wants a takedown.
Montgomery wants a takedown but no success here.
Luis prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Thomas Montgomery. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Montgomery tries to break the clinch but Luis is controlling the position.

Luis pulls Montgomery into guard.
Luis manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Montgomery manages to get himself to full guard.

Montgomery has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Luis is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Montgomery.
Montgomery is trying to improve his position.

Luis tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Luis tries for a kimura but Montgomery is defending well.
Luis staying calm.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Luis trying to control the position but Montgomery is working away.
Luis misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Montgomery is looking for a sweep.
Montgomery can't do much from the bottom here.
Luis blocks the strikes from Montgomery.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Luis has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Montgomery!
Montgomery is squirming around, avoiding Luis's attempts to control the action.
Luis controlling the position easily from mount.
Luis throws some wild stikes that Montgomery manages to avoid easily.
Montgomery gets back to half guard.
Luis seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Luis thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Montgomery's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Luis is looking to take a break and control but Montgomery is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Montgomery tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Montgomery enables Luis to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Montgomery manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Luis is standing up over Montgomery. Montgomery looks to escape but Luis dives into side control.


Luis stands up and beckons Montgomery to his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Luis throws a left and a right that both miss

and Montgomery holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Thomas Montgomery has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Tercio Luis is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Luis takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Luis.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tercio Luis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Luis has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
