Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mike Coxsmall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steph Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mike Coxsmall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Steph Jones!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Daniel Franklin and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coxsmall swinging wildly here.
Jones has his takedown stuffed
and Coxsmall counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Coxsmall fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Jones pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Coxsmall shoots in but no luck this time.
Jones looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Coxsmall appears to be looking for a big counter.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Coxsmall fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Coxsmall. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jones fails with a takedown attempt.
Coxsmall leaves Jones with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Coxsmall tries to counter by clinching up but Jones breaks away and moves out of range.

Coxsmall rushes Jones and presses him up against the cage.
Jones tries to circle away but Coxsmall has him pinned against the cage.

Coxsmall breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Coxsmall tries to keep at a distance but Jones has taken the fight into the clinch.
Coxsmall tries to pull guard but Jones won't allow it.
Coxsmall displaying some good clinch control by pressing Jones up against the cage.
Jones jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Coxsmall walks away with a smile on his face. Jones gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Coxsmall clinches with his opponent.

Coxsmall's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Coxsmall closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jones circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Jones drives through and clinches with Coxsmall against the cage.

Coxsmall successfully pulls guard.

Jones gets to his feet - Coxsmall follows without any prompting.

Jones has managed to clinch.
Jones should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Coxsmall.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Coxsmall tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jones smiles and moves away.
Jones throws a wild body kick that Coxsmall sees coming a mile off.
Coxsmall is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Jones.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Coxsmall just leaning against Jones, taking a breather.

Coxsmall's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Coxsmall fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Jones to the ground. Coxsmall is now in Jones's guard.

Jones manages to escape and get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Coxsmall forces Jones back against the cage and clinches.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Coxsmall has Jones pushed against the cage.
Coxsmall lands a body punch.
Jones is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Coxsmall is defending well.
Jones looking for a takedown.
Jones looks winded!
Coxsmall lands a hook to the side of the head.
Coxsmall lands a nice shot to the body.

Coxsmall's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Jones.
Coxsmall throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.

Jones clinches with his opponent.
Coxsmall content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Coxsmall is trying to pull guard but Jones turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Jones connects with a nasty looking knee right to Coxsmall's face.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Coxsmall blocks an elbow strike from Jones.
Jones tries to stall but Coxsmall uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Coxsmall lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Coxsmall.

Coxsmall's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Coxsmall scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Coxsmall dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Jones misses with a takedown
and Coxsmall counters with a leg kick.
Coxsmall throws a quick inside leg kick.
Mike Coxsmall is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Jones just misses with a punch to the body.
Coxsmall closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jones circles away.
A telegraphed right hand from Jones misses the target.
Coxsmall misses with a head kick.

Coxsmall gets a clinch.
Coxsmall is pushing Jones up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Coxsmall has Jones pressed against the cage, preventing Jones from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Jones is pushing down on Coxsmall's leg trying to pass to half guard. Coxsmall is fighting to maintain full guard but Jones has managed to sneak the leg through.

Jones decides to return to a standing position.
Jones fails with the takedown
and Coxsmall counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Jones is breathing heavily.
Coxsmall tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jones swivels and escapes.
Coxsmall is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jones can do to turn this around?

Coxsmall lands a nice hook to Jones's body. Jones takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Coxsmall lands a left hand that snaps the head of Jones backwards.

Coxsmall breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mike Coxsmall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Coxsmall tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jones swivels and escapes.

Coxsmall throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Coxsmall shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Jones tries to bum rush Coxsmall with a series of wild strikes but Coxsmall uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Coxsmall pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Coxsmall fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Jones, pushing him back against the cage.

Coxsmall escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Jones misses with a jab, cross combination.
Jones shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Coxsmall sprawls well. Coxsmall wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Jones gets slowly back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Coxsmall shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jones tries to counter by closing the distance.

Coxsmall closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Coxsmall breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Coxsmall clinches up with Jones and pushes him back against the cage.
Coxsmall just leaning against Jones, taking a breather.
Coxsmall is trying to pull guard but Jones has him pressed against the cage.

Coxsmall's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Coxsmall lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Jones keeps the fight on the outside.
Jones blocks a head kick by Coxsmall.

Coxsmall gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Jones is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Coxsmall to keep the fight standing.

Jones works his foot free and advances to mount.
Jones takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Jones jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Coxsmall is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Coxsmall and Jones has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Coxsmall wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Coxsmall takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Jones remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Coxsmall gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Jones looking to control and managing it successfully.
Jones trying to control but Coxsmall is having none of it.
Jones controlling his opponent.
Coxsmall knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jones on the ground.
Coxsmall really wants to buck Jones off and get back to his feet.

Jones looking for a guillotine from mount but Coxsmall is having none of it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Coxsmall is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Jones looking to finish Coxsmall with some ground and pound. This is bad for Coxsmall!
Coxsmall is bucking up trying to escape but Jones cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Steph Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
