PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bilbro Baggins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Jacobi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Bilbro Baggins has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Bilbro Baggins seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bilbro Baggins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johnny Jacobi!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Alan Glass and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Baggins has closed the distance and engaged Jacobi in a clinch.
Jacobi stalling the fight.

Baggins lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Baggins missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Baggins looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Baggins slows the pace down in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jacobi is staying active underneath Baggins, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Baggins throwing shots but Jacobi is blocking nicely.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Baggins wants to pass to mount but Jacobi is defending the position.

Baggins stops Jacobi from getting back to his feet.
Jacobi is looking for a sweep. Baggins is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Good exchange - Baggins coming out on top.

Baggins feinted with a counter takedown.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Baggins.

Baggins is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Jacobi!

Baggins can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jacobi is looking to escape.

Baggins is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Jacobi to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Jacobi shrugs it off.

Jacobi is desperately trying to improve his position but Baggins has a good base and remains in mount.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Baggins throws a right and a left that Jacobi avoids nicely.
Jacobi throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Baggins sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Baggins is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Jacobi has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Baggins looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Jacobi connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Baggins is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jacobi can do to turn this around?

A momentary lapse in concentration from Baggins enables Jacobi to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Baggins manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Baggins is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johnny Jacobi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Baggins tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Jacobi defends well and Baggins ends up having to push Jacobi into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Baggins shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Baggins was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Baggins wants to finish this one by submission but Jacobi is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Baggins.

Baggins takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Baggins is trying to improve position by moving to mount. Jacobi has hold of his neck though and manages to move into guard! All of a sudden, Baggins is in a lot of trouble! Jacobi is straining to finish and he's done it! Baggins taps out! Amazing!
