The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Down feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Down is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kowalix knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Kowalix is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Down can't fight it off and eventually Kowalix manages to take the fight to the floor. Down looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Kowalix throws a looping overhand right but Down ducks down to avoid it.
Kowalix shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Down sprawls well. Down wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kowalix gets slowly back to his feet.
Kowalix throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Rock Down is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Kowalix rushes Down and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Kowalix drops down looking for an ankle pick but Down pulls his leg out and moves away.

Down is fighting off a takedown attempt but Kowalix is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Down to the mat. Down regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Kowalix must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
