PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Joos Frank (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aaron Kaufman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kaufman has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. The key to victory for Joos Frank has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Joos Frank!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Aaron Kaufman!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Dirk Anderson and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Frank fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Frank misses with a takedown attempt
and Kaufman counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Frank misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Frank throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Frank plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

Frank closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Frank has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Kaufman avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joos Frank. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Frank wants to take the fight to the mat but Kaufman manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kaufman has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Frank regains guard immediately.

Frank manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Frank wants to stand back up but Kaufman manages to pass into side control.

Frank is trying to control Kaufman's posture but Kaufman avoids it.

You can see the frustration on Frank's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Kaufman tries for a kimura but Frank is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Frank manages to work his way to half guard, despite Kaufman's best efforts.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Frank is looking to control Kaufman's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Frank avoid being mounted?

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by Frank or perhaps it was just good defense by Kaufman, which made it look bad.
Frank is breathing heavily.
Frank tries for a takedown but Kaufman circles away easily

and Kaufman counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Kaufman seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Kaufman tries to free his leg and advance position but Frank is retaining full guard.

A close round but Aaron Kaufman will probably get the nod.
That's time! Frank's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Kaufman has picked Frank up - he's going for a ride! Kaufman dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

The fighters are battling for position here. Frank manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Frank wants to sweep here but Kaufman controlling him for the moment.
Frank wants to get back to his feet but Kaufman is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Kaufman shoots in and gets a takedown into Frank's guard.

Frank manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kaufman uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Frank.
Frank really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Kaufman feints and as Frank raises his hands in defense, Kaufman changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Frank keeping moving, preventing Kaufman from controlling successfully.
Frank wants to sweep but no luck.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kaufman drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kaufman jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Frank trying to keep a closed guard but Kaufman is proving a slippery customer.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Frank is really struggling to control Kaufman but he's trying to hold on to the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Frank cracks Kaufman with a good jab.
Frank is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Kaufman swats away the attempt to clinch by Frank.
Frank throws a head kick that misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Kaufman closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Frank sneaks out the side door and pushes Kaufman away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Frank is looking to clinch but Kaufman is avoiding it.

Kaufman shoots in and bounces Frank off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Kaufman avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Kaufman slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Joos Frank will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Kaufman's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Frank closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Kaufman quickly recovers to half guard.
Kaufman is refusing to be controlled, as Frank sits in half guard.

Kaufman is looking for a sweep. Frank is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Kaufman manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Frank manages to get himself to full guard.

Aaron Kaufman has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kaufman is stalling in the full guard.

Frank is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kaufman is controlling him.

Well, if Kaufman is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Frank throws a series of punches but Kaufman avoids them all with ease.
Kaufman takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Frank throws a series of punches but Kaufman moves out of range.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Frank shoots in but Kaufman avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Kaufman closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Aaron Kaufman.
I think Kaufman has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
