Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Toney Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gerald Dean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gerald Dean will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Toney Reed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gerald Dean!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Reed.
Dean wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Dean managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Reed.

Reed postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dean is looking for a sweep.

Reed seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Dean for as long as he can get away with.

Dean tries to buck Reed off but Reed is having none of it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Reed has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Dean can do anything to dispel that myth.

Reed ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Dean moves away.

Reed pushes Dean up against the cage in a clinch.

Dean pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Dean fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Reed avoids it really well and circles away.
Reed swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Dean shoots and misses
and Reed makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Dean is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Toney Reed has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gerald Dean.
Reed shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dean as he avoids it easily.
Dean tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Reed could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Reed feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

This is a sustained period of stalling by Reed.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Reed tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Dean paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Dean unleashes a big counter combination but Reed bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Dean shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Reed defends it nicely.
Gerald Dean seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Reed dives in and scores a takedown into Dean's guard.

Reed is stalling in the full guard.
Reed continues to hold on tight.
Dean is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Dean displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Reed.
Reed stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Reed wants it to stay on the feet.
Dean swats away the attempt to clinch by Reed.

Dean tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Reed defends well and Dean ends up having to push Reed into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Reed jumps guard but Dean turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Reed manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Dean manages to get himself to full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reed slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dean takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Reed not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Dean can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Reed controls the pace.

Reed has closed the distance and engaged Dean in a clinch.
Reed tries to pull guard but Dean holds him up against the cage and eventually Reed drops back down to his feet.

Reed lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Reed's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
