Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bruno Cortez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gabriel De Oliveira!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Mauricio Rocha and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cortez tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but De Oliveira paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Cortez tries to keep at a distance but De Oliveira has taken the fight into the clinch.
Cortez is trying to break the clinch but De Oliveira has him pressed against the cage.
Cortez is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables De Oliveira to keep the fight standing.

Cortez is fighting off a takedown attempt but De Oliveira is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Cortez to the mat. Cortez regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
De Oliveira wanted to stand there but Cortez had control of the position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
It looks like De Oliveira is going to stand back up.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Cortez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. De Oliveira manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
De Oliveira fails to land the takedown.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cortez is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

De Oliveira is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
De Oliveira has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

De Oliveira takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Cortez wants to improve his position but De Oliveira is controlling well.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


De Oliveira fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Cortez is out of range.
De Oliveira swings for the body but Cortez moves out of range.
It looked like Cortez was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
De Oliveira closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Cortez tries to clinch up but De Oliveira circles away and keeps his distance.

De Oliveira is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
De Oliveira lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
No luck for De Oliveira with that takedown attempt.
Cortez is looking to counter with head kicks.

Cortez tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. De Oliveira smiles and moves away.

De Oliveira working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cortez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cortez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

De Oliveira manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cortez manages to get himself to full guard.

De Oliveira not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as De Oliveira accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
De Oliveira wanted to stand there but Cortez had control of the position.
De Oliveira wants to pass the guard but Cortez is keeping the position.

Gabriel De Oliveira showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Cortez tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

De Oliveira wants the takedown. Cortez is fighting it off but De Oliveira persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Cortez's guard against the cage.
De Oliveira wants to get up but he can't break Cortez's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Cortez wants to stand and escape but De Oliveira is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cortez can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as De Oliveira controls the pace.
Let's hope that De Oliveira has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

De Oliveira shoots in for a takedown but Cortez shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Cortez throws a big counter combination but De Oliveira scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Cortez is looking to clinch but De Oliveira is avoiding it.
De Oliveira looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Cortez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Cortez avoids the head kick by De Oliveira.
De Oliveira throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
De Oliveira takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Cortez dodges the punch combination from De Oliveira.
De Oliveira shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cortez pinned against the cage. Cortez gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Cortez is looking to counter punch.
Bruno Cortez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gabriel De Oliveira.
De Oliveira throws a right hand that Cortez ducks under and follows up with a left that Cortez also avoids with ease.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if De Oliveira can do anything to dispel that myth.

De Oliveira pushes Cortez away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Cortez gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
De Oliveira manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Gabriel De Oliveira comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well De Oliveira has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
