PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Edger Davison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Paul Evans has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Edger Davison !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Evans!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Evans closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Davison quickly recovers to half guard.
Well, if Evans is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Evans prevents Davison from improving his position.
Evans takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Evans looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Davison with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Evans tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Evans content to control rather than advance.
Davison wants to get back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Davison is trying to control but can't.
Evans wants to stand up but Davison is controlling the position.
Evans tries to pass to full mount but Davison defends it.
Davison has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Evans is working away from the top position though.
Davison is looking for a sweep. Evans is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Evans shoots for a double leg takedown but Davison sprawls well. He's pushed Evans's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Evans feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Evans is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Evans working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Davison is trying to control the position but Evans postures up.
Evans is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Evans won't allow Davison to sweep him here.

Davison is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Evans is controlling him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Evans is nestled in close to Davison , controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Evans is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Davison is doing well to control the position and prevent Evans from advancing to side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Davison 's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Davison stuffs the takedown attempt from Evans. Evans gets slowly back to his feet.

and Davison counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Davison fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Evans looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.

Evans clinches up against the cage.
Davison is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Evans is defending well.
Evans misses with some punches.

Evans lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Davison kicks Evans off and gets back to his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Evans defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Davison .
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Edger Davison . That's going to take a lot out of him.

Evans looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Evans connects with a nice short shot to Davison 's temple.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Davison has hold of Evans's hands but Evans slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Evans is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Davison on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Evans is looking to advance position but Davison won't allow it.
Davison is looking for a sweep. Evans is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Evans wants to free his trapped foot but Davison is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Ground and pound from Evans.

Evans wants to work for an arm triangle but Davison is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Evans is working for a kimura but Davison is defending it quite comfortably.
Evans stops Davison from getting back to his feet.
Evans drops an elbow to the side of Davison 's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Davison is pressing down on Evans's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Evans has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Evans is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Davison is trying to control the position but Evans postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Horrible takedown attempt by Davison or perhaps it was just good defense by Evans, which made it look bad.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Evans.
Edger Davison is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Evans misses with the combination.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Evans clinches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Evans showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Evans lands a nice short elbow.

Evans is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Davison defends it well.
Evans wants to take a breather but Davison is having none of it.

Evans is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Davison doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Evans.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Evans wants to take a breather but Davison is having none of it.
Davison is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Evans scores with a couple of nice shots.
Evans looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Evans wants to stand but Davison has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Evans takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Evans wants to lay and pray for a moment but Davison keeps working.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Paul Evans comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Evans has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
