Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tanishk Soni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith comes into the arena with 10 Years - All White blaring out of the sound system. Tanishk Soni told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Columbo Gatti and Lou da Vinci.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Soni moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off.
Soni tries to clinch but Smith moves out of range.
Tanishk Soni seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Soni misses with a leg kick

and Smith counters with a nice double leg into side control. Soni won't be happy with that.

Smith tries for a kimura but Soni is defending well.

Smith tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Smith throwing shots but missing, from side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith tries to score with some ground and pound. Soni controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Smith throws a strike aimed at the side of Soni's head but Soni avoids it well.
Smith moves into full mount!

Smith with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Soni is bucking up trying to escape but Smith cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

It looks like Tanishk Soni has been cut.
Smith throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Smith looking to ground and pound but Soni is blocking nicely.
Smith pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

The cut above Tanishk Soni's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Tanishk Soni's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

After the fight, Johnny Smith was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
