PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gunnar Tromp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edward Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gunnar Tromp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Edward Jones!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sloppy strikes from Tromp. Those never looked like landing.
Tromp shoots for a takedown but Jones saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Despite the aggression on Jones's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Jones throws a leg kick
and Tromp connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Tromp closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Jones quickly recovers to half guard.

Tromp is working for a kimura but Jones is defending it quite comfortably.

Tromp seems to be looking for submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tromp slows the pace down in half guard.
Tromp has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Jones is looking to escape.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Tromp is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Jones sees it coming and defends easily.
Tromp is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Tromp looking for a submission but Jones manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.
Tromp controls from within his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Tromp passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Tromp moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Jones looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Tromp goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Jones rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Tromp's guard! Nice work there by Jones!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tromp wants to sweep here but Jones controlling him for the moment.

Tromp has his feet on Jones's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Jones scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Tromp moves into the clinch.
Jones is looking to break free of the clinch but Tromp has double underhooks.

Tromp lands a takedown into guard.
Jones looks winded!
Tromp distracts Jones with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Jones keeping full guard, as Tromp tries to pass.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Tromp thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Tromp wants to pass the guard but Jones is keeping the position.
Tromp stands and throws Jones's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Tromp working the ground and pound.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Tromp is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jones knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Tromp wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Jones, who protects the arm well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gunnar Tromp dominated that round.
That's time! Tromp's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Tromp scores with a jab to the head.


It looks like Edward Jones has been cut.

Tromp closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Jones's guard.
Tromp keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Jones's head.


Jones is rocked!
Tromp stays in close to Jones's body and controls the position.
Jones is still in real trouble! Can Tromp finish him?
Tromp throwing strikes but missing.
Tromp gets to his feet and stands over Jones, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Jones felt that one! Tromp unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Jones from any more punishment!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Gunnar Tromp!
