PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jewell Witt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mr Meth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mr Meth told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jewell Witt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mr Meth!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Konstantin Menshow and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Meth clinches with his opponent.
Nice body punch from Meth - that landed with a thud.

Meth is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Witt can't fight it off and eventually Meth manages to take the fight to the floor. Witt looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Meth controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Meth throwing strikes from guard but Witt blocks nicely.
Witt not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Witt had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Meth defends it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Meth is looking to work some ground and pound but Witt has wrist control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Meth is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Meth working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Witt is trying to hold Meth in close to prevent damage but Meth has managed to pass into half guard.
Meth wants to stand up but Witt is controlling the position.

Meth decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Meth shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Witt napping and manages to drive through into side control!
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Meth moves into full mount!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Meth throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Witt because Meth loaded up on that one.

Meth stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Meth has managed to clinch.
Meth's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Meth pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Meth moves into range and clinches up with Witt.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Meth is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Witt can't fight it off and eventually Meth manages to take the fight to the floor. Witt looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Meth trying to control but Witt is working from the bottom.

Meth throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Witt works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Witt trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Witt is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Witt looking for a sweep. Not yet Witt, not yet.
Meth trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Meth in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Meth scores with a shot to the body.
Mr Meth seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Meth bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Witt is breathing heavily.
Meth takes a little break here. Witt wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
The strikes coming from Meth are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Meth tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Meth throwing strikes but Witt manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mr Meth dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Meth prevents the takedown attempt.

Meth breaks from the clinch.
Meth tries to clinch but Witt is having none of it.
As Meth looks to move away, Witt throws a big counter combo but Meth just gets out of the way.
Meth tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Meth shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Meth is looking to take a break and control but Witt is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Witt slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Meth landing with the ground and pound.

Meth decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Meth looks to land a combination but Witt avoids it well.

Meth darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Witt is trying to maintain the position but Meth is very close to passing his half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Meth not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Witt could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Witt keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Meth trying to control from Witt's half guard. Witt has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Witt looking to control.

Meth stands up from Witt's guard - Meth perhaps looking for a knockout.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Meth shoots in and bounces Witt off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Witt throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Witt keeping moving, preventing Meth from controlling successfully.
Meth seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Witt trying to keep a closed guard but Meth is proving a slippery customer.
Meth trying to control but Witt is working from the bottom.
Witt lands some strikes from the bottom.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Meth fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Witt, pushing him back against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mr Meth showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Meth gets the takedown into side control.
Meth is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Meth misses with the ground and pound.
Meth trying to control the action but Witt is working from the bottom.
Meth tries to move to mount but Witt blocks the move with his legs.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Witt holds on to Meth's head and controls the position momentarily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Meth wants to take a breather but Witt manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Meth.
Witt striking off his back but it's not causing Meth any problems.
Meth content to stall in guard here.
Meth postures up in Witt's guard and throws a big left but Witt blocks it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Meth wants to control from the top but Witt keeps moving.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Meth looking to pass the guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Meth closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Witt's guard.

Meth stands up from Witt's guard - Meth perhaps looking for a knockout.

Meth bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here.
Meth cracks Witt with a big elbow.
Meth wants to lay and pray for a moment but Witt keeps working.
Witt on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Meth wants to lay and pray for a moment but Witt keeps working.

Meth looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Meth takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Witt regains half guard, as Meth was trying to land strikes.
Meth is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Witt!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Meth goes for an armbar but Witt turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Witt.
Jewell Witt has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mr Meth is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Witt's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

And that's the end of the fight!
Mr Meth comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Meth has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3 rounds of action, we go to the scorecards for a decision.
