Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dick Santiago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dick Santiago!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Chuck Smith!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Paulsen Ambrosius and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Smith lands in his opponent's guard.

Santiago has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Smith has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Santiago works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Santiago works over Smith with some ground and pound from guard.
Smith is trying to control the position but Santiago postures up.
Smith doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Smith is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Santiago makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Santiago.
Smith must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Santiago is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Santiago is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Smith is looking to improve his position.
Smith controlling the position well.
Smith wants to get back to full guard.
Smith is concentrating on defense, preventing Santiago from advancing position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Santiago is working for a kimura but Smith is defending it quite comfortably.
Smith wants to improve his position but Santiago is controlling well.

Santiago is working for a submission of some sort.
Well, if Santiago is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Smith is trying to control but can't.
Santiago working Smith over with strikes.
Santiago working the head and body with strikes.
Smith desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Santiago slows the pace down in half guard.
Santiago lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Santiago takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Santiago is taking a breather. Smith says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Smith is pressing down on Santiago's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Smith escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Santiago gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Santiago drops back, looking for a kneebar! Smith looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Smith looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Smith!

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Santiago seems a little lost for a moment, as Smith dominates the positioning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dick Santiago dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A head kick by Smith misses
and Santiago counters with a left to the body.

Smith clinches.
Santiago has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Smith's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Santiago moves into the clinch.

Santiago gets control of Smith's arms and successfully pulls guard. Santiago will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Smith wants to stand but Santiago is controlling his posture from full guard.
Santiago tries to land a sweep but no joy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Santiago is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Santiago pushes Smith off and scrambles back to his feet.

Smith misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Santiago is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Smith can do to turn this around?

Smith decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Santiago moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Smith stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Santiago swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Santiago wants to sweep but no luck.
Smith throwing strikes from guard but Santiago blocks nicely.
Smith works over Santiago with some ground and pound from guard.
Smith trying to control but Santiago is working from the bottom.
Smith tries to free his leg and advance position but Santiago is retaining full guard.
Smith is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Smith controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Santiago keeping moving, preventing Smith from controlling successfully.
Santiago not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Smith really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Santiago. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Santiago bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Smith's guard.

Santiago scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Smith is wriggling around but Santiago manages to pass to half guard.

Smith wants to control but Santiago is keeping busy.
Santiago not doing much here.
Smith trying to control but Santiago postures up.

Smith is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Santiago pulls his head out easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Santiago seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Santiago decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Smith pushes Santiago up against the cage in a clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Santiago blocking some punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dick Santiago dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Smith closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Santiago manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Smith has taken the fight to the clinch.

Santiago successfully pulls guard.
Santiago wants to sweep here but Smith controlling him for the moment.
Santiago seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Santiago might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Smith trying to control the position from guard on top but Santiago is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Santiago bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Smith's guard.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Smith trying to keep a closed guard but Santiago is proving a slippery customer.
Santiago seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Santiago's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Smith is trying to keep Santiago in close.

Santiago got a little sloppy there for a moment and Smith has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Santiago has managed to get both his arms back between Smith's legs - danger averted.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Smith is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Smith clinches.

Smith gets through Santiago's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Santiago is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Santiago using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Smith has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Santiago tries to score a body lock takedown but Smith shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Smith's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Nice uppercut there from Smith.
Smith throws a head kick that misses.
Smith attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Santiago went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Smith tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Santiago throws a big counter combination but Smith scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Smith shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Smith was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Santiago tries to improve position but can't.
Santiago gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Smith wants to control but Santiago is keeping him busy.

Smith is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Santiago defends it well.
Santiago is staying active underneath Smith, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Smith tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Santiago wants to get back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Chuck Smith.
I think Santiago has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
