PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roderick Wells (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mr Meth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Meth has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Roderick Wells!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mr Meth!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Igor Prikhodko and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Meth drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Meth is looking to stand up but Wells won't let him.
Meth must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Meth trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Wells really is a fat lump.
Wells controlling the position.
Meth tries to stand but Wells is controlling from the bottom.
Meth wants to control from the top but Wells keeps moving.
Wells wants to sweep here but Meth controlling him for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wells keeping moving, preventing Meth from controlling successfully.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Wells is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Meth is controlling him.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Wells tries to sprawl but Meth drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Meth looks winded!
Wells wants to control but Meth is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Meth has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Wells is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Meth goes for an armbar but Wells turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Wells.

Wells postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Meth is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Wells, into his guard.

Meth content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Wells is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Meth is looking to work some ground and pound but Wells has wrist control.
Wells keeping full guard, as Meth tries to pass.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wells wants to sweep here but Meth controlling him for the moment.
Meth won't allow Wells to get back to his feet.
Wells is controlling Meth's posture.
Meth won't allow Wells to get back to his feet.
Meth tries to free his leg and advance position but Wells is retaining full guard.
Meth not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Wells is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Wells looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Wells winds up and cracks Meth with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Wells trying to control the action but Meth is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Mr Meth will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Meth closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Wells pushes Meth away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Meth gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Meth wants to take a breather but Wells manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Meth.
Wells is looking to stand up but Meth isn't so interested in that idea.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wells might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Meth is breathing heavily.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Meth is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Meth closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Wells explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Meth drives through with a takedown into Wells's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Wells has his hands on Meth's head, controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Meth stops Wells from standing up.

Meth's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Wells keeping moving, preventing Meth from controlling successfully.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Wells is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Meth is controlling him.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Meth looking to sit in guard and control but Wells gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Meth working for submissions but it's allowed Wells to get to half guard.
Wells wants to control but Meth is keeping him busy.
Meth wants to get back to full guard.

Wells is working for a submission of some sort.

Wells is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Meth is just riding it out for now. Wells eventually gives up the hold.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Wells seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Meth does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Wells is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Meth is just riding it out for now. Wells eventually gives up the hold.
Meth is looking for a sweep. Wells is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roderick Wells dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Excellent takedown into side control there by Wells.

Wells is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Meth knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Wells swings around for an armbar but Meth sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Wells's guard.
Meth takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Meth wants to pass the guard but Wells is keeping the position.
Meth with a flurry of punches that miss.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Meth trying to control the position from guard on top but Wells is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Meth engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Wells is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Meth is controlling him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Meth closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Wells wants to get back to his feet but Meth is dominant here and he's now got Wells's back!

Meth trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Meth throwing sloppy strikes.

Meth wants to control but Wells is keeping busy.

Meth has his opponent's back but Wells is looking to stand. He manages to get to his feet and shakes off Meth.
Wells shoots in for a takedown but Meth shows good takedown defense.

Wells throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Meth was covering up waiting for the punch and Wells finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Meth wants to hit a switch here but Wells passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Meth there!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
Roderick Wells showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Wells has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
