PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Van Murray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Will (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Van Murray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jim Will!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Micheangelo Fripello and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Murray moves into range and clinches up with Will.

Will has hold of one of Murray's legs. Murray is fighting the takedown attempt but Will gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Will prevents Murray from getting back to his feet.
Murray is trying to control the position but Will postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Murray lands a couple of decent looking body shots there.
Murray is looking to stand up but Will isn't so interested in that idea.
Murray trying to control the position.
Murray is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Murray missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Murray not doing much here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Will keeping control of the position.
Will is pressing down on Murray's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Murray postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Murray trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Murray prevents Will from getting back to his feet.
Murray stays in close to Will's body and controls the position.

Will looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Murray slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Murray wants to control from the top but Will keeps moving.
Will avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Will working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Murray.
Murray looking to sit in guard and control but Will gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


That's two minutes gone in the round.
Will trying to control but Murray is working from the bottom.
Murray is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Will trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Murray pulls Will in close to prevent any damage.
Murray is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Will is controlling him.
Murray seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Will slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Will drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Will jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Murray closes the distance and pushes Will back into the cage.

Will jumps into guard, dragging Murray to the mat.
Will is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Murray has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Will is proving hard to escape from.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Will is pulling down on Murray's head. It's preventing any offense from Murray, at least for the moment.
Will utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Murray stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Murray has taken the fight to the clinch.

Murray successfully pulls guard.
Murray trying to keep a closed guard but Will is proving a slippery customer.
Will controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Murray has his hands on Will's head, controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Van Murray will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Murray clinches.

Murray wants to stand and escape but Will is having none of it.

Will landing with the ground and pound.
Will wants to control from the top but Murray keeps moving.

Murray keeping full guard, as Will tries to pass.
Will sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Murray's guard.
Will is trying to control the action in half guard but Murray is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Murray wants to control but Will is keeping busy.
Will seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Murray wants to control but Will is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Will shoots in and bounces Murray off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Murray wants to get back to his feet but Will passes into half guard.

Murray trying to control but Will postures up.
Murray tries to kick Will off but Will keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Will perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Murray is trying to control but can't.
Murray is looking for a sweep. Will is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Murray has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Will is on him like a limpet, forcing Murray back against the cage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Will has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Murray is trying to keep an underhook but Will manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Will winds up and cracks Murray with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Murray is staying active underneath Will, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Will prevents Murray from improving his position.
Will is thwarting Murray's attempts to control the position.

Will looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Murray tries to kick Will off but Will keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Will is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Murray is not content to let Will control the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Murray trying to hold on to Will's head to control him but Will postures up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim Will showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Murray's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Will shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Will throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Murray works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Murray looking to hit a scissor sweep but Will is one step ahead there.
Murray is looking to stand up but Will isn't so interested in that idea.

Will trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Murray wants to stand and escape but Will is having none of it.

Will gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Murray regains guard.
Murray is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Will dives into side control.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Will trying to control the position but Murray is working away.

Murray trying to remain calm as Will controls from the top position.
Will wants to lay and pray for a moment but Murray keeps working.
Murray is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Will has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Will lands some shots froms side control.
Will sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Murray is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Murray wants to control but Will postures up.
Murray is looking for a sweep.
Murray struggling a bit here.
Murray gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Murray keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Will has control of Murray's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Murray regains control of the situation pretty easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Will looking to finish Murray with some ground and pound. This is bad for Murray!
Murray is squirming around, avoiding Will's attempts to control the action.
Murray is in all sorts of trouble here.
Will has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Will looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Will trying to control but he's not successful this time.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jim Will comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Will has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
