Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, DeShawn Johnson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 41 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brenden Abbott!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Fedor Mirinova and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abbott keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
We've been told by Johnson's head coaches at The Studio that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Abbott throws a nice head kick!


It looks like DeShawn Johnson has been cut.
Brenden Abbott seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Johnson feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Abbott's calf.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Johnson, as that shot connected.
Johnson lands a really nice looking cross but Abbott seems unphased.

Abbott has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Johnson misses with a jab, cross combination.
Johnson moves out of range of the body kick.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Abbott throws a looping overhand right but Johnson ducks down to avoid it.
It looked like Johnson wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Johnson throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Abbott feints and then cracks Johnson's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Johnson down.
Abbott throws a head kick but Johnson moves out of range.
Abbott misses with a two punch combination.
Johnson throws a wild body kick that Abbott sees coming a mile off.
A looping hook to the body misses from Abbott. Johnson does a little dance to reset his feet.
Abbott throws an off balance right hand
and Johnson counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Johnson digs a good hook to Abbott's body.
Johnson fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Abbott looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Abbott throws a series of punches but Johnson moves out of range.
Johnson throws a leg kick

and Abbott counters with a nice double leg into side control. Johnson won't be happy with that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Johnson stops Abbott from passing to mount.
Johnson is trying to escape the position but Abbott is controlling the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Johnson can't do much from the bottom here.
Johnson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Abbott wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Abbott throws an elbow but Johnson slips to the side and avoids it well.
Johnson is not content to let Abbott control the position.
Abbott looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Johnson is avoiding damage well.

Abbott looks up at the clock and then as Johnson takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Abbott smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Johnson wants to control but Abbott postures up.

Abbott content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Johnson is looking for a sweep.

Sloppy strikes there by Abbott.
Johnson parries the strikes from Abbott easily there. Abbott is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Johnson to escape.
Johnson is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Johnson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Abbott on the ground.
Abbott connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Johnson some visible discomfort.
Abbott misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Abbott happy to just control the position for now.
Johnson regains half guard there - taking advantage of Abbott's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Abbott fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Johnson on the side of the head.
Abbott sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Johnson misses with a combination
and Abbott cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Johnson has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Abbott.
Johnson throws a body punch but Abbott moves out of range.
A punch lands to the side of Johnson 's head but he takes it in his stride.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johnson takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Abbott scores with a jab. Johnson acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Abbott has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Johnson gets hit by the mother of all head kicks and drops to the canvas in a crumpled heap! Woooow, the Internet is going to be talking about this one for weeks!

Brenden Abbott decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
