PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tyrone Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scott Allen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Scott Allen is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tyrone Griffin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Scott Allen!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Frank Dennis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Griffin circles away from the clinch attempt.
Allen tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Griffin counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Allen throws a head kick that misses.

Allen decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Griffin trying to control but Allen postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Griffin blocking the ground and pound attempt from Allen.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Allen passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Griffin!
Griffin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Allen on the ground.
Griffin really wants to buck Allen off and get back to his feet.

Allen lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Allen tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Allen pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Allen has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Griffin's face.
Allen trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Allen has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Allen prevents Griffin from getting the reversal.

Griffin on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Griffin tries to get out of the position.

Allen looking to control but Griffin is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Allen is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Griffin is surviving well by controlling Allen's body position as best he can.

Griffin keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Allen looking to control and managing it successfully.

Allen has hold of Griffin's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Griffin manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Allen working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Allen lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Allen moves to the back.

Allen working for the choke.
Allen scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
Allen trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Griffin doesn't escape.
Allen is working the ground and pound. Can Griffin escape?
Griffin manages to reverse the position and now he's in Allen's guard. Nice work there by Griffin.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Allen throws a good cross that connects.

Allen takes the fight into the clinch.
A bit of stalling here from Griffin.
Allen tries to work over Griffin's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Griffin ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Griffin no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Allen wants to pass the guard but Griffin is keeping the position.
Allen is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Griffin will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Griffin can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Allen controls the pace.
Allen is working Griffin over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Allen has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Allen stays in close to Griffin's body and controls the position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Griffin closes this distance looking for a takedown but Allen circles away.
Griffin fails in his attempt to clinch.
Some bone on bone action there as Griffin checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Allen tried to score with a low kick but Griffin checks it.
Griffin is looking to clinch.
Nice takedown defense from Griffin. No joy for Allen on that attempt.
Griffin tries to score a power double leg takedown but Allen sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Griffin somewhat.

Tyrone Griffin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Scott Allen.

Allen is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

Allen shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Griffin napping and manages to drive through into side control!

and Griffin connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Allen stuffs the takedown attempt from Griffin. Griffin gets slowly back to his feet.
Griffin lands with a nice body kick.
Griffin leaves Allen with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Tyrone Griffin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Allen swats away the attempt to clinch by Griffin.
Griffin tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Allen drives through with a takedown into Griffin's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Allen wants to control from the top but Griffin keeps moving.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Griffin tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Allen manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Scott Allen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Griffin shoots in for a takedown but Allen shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Allen really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Griffin.

Allen is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Griffin knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Griffin for a finish.
Allen is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Allen gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Allen gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Allen apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Griffin moves into the clinch.
Allen drops down looking for an ankle pick but Griffin pulls his leg out and moves away.
Griffin looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Allen is fending him off so far but Griffin persists. Nope, Allen circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tyrone Griffin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Griffin lands with a nice body kick.

Griffin gets caught napping as Allen dives in and scores a takedown. Griffin manages to retain guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Griffin wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Allen stands up and beckons Griffin to his feet.

Allen feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Griffin can't keep his opponent in guard - Allen advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Allen lands with a punch from half guard.
Allen is controlling the pace.

Allen decides to stand up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Scott Allen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Allen winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
