PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kyle Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrick Simon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kyle Lee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Patrick Simon!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Anni Minnemäki and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Simon keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Simon tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Lee defends well and Simon ends up having to push Lee into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Lee looks to clinch
and Lee takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Simon gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Lee wants to get back to striking at distance but Simon won't allow it.
Lee is trying to break free.

Simon manages to break the clinch.
Lee with a poor takedown

and Simon holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Lee is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Simon is defending well for now.
Lee misses with a punch to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Simon drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Lee gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Simon manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Lee stalling in the clinch but Simon improves position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Simon has Lee pressed against the cage, preventing Lee from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Simon is trying to pull guard but Lee has him pressed against the cage.
Kyle Lee has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Patrick Simon.

Simon ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Simon no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Lee trying to control but Simon is working from the bottom.
Simon throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Lee will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Lee pushes down on Simon's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Lee really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Simon pushes Lee off and gets back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Simon closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Simon pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Lee fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Simon avoids it really well and circles away.
Lee looks for a takedown but Simon sprawls well.

Simon takes the fight into the clinch.

Simon breaks the clinch.
Lee shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Simon changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lee tries to avoid it but Simon manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lee to the ground. Lee escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Simon will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Horrible takedown attempt by Lee or perhaps it was just good defense by Simon, which made it look bad.
Simon fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Simon clinches up against the cage.
Simon drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Lee gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Simon tries to pull guard but Lee forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Simon fails to pull the fight into his guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Simon's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Lee plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Lee throws a head kick that misses

and Simon counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Simon.
A body shot lands from Simon.
Lee is breathing heavily.
Lee is trying to force a seperation but Simon has the dominant position.

Simon breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Simon moves into range and clinches up with Lee.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Simon takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lee throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Simon blocks it with crossed arms.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Patrick Simon dominated that round.
That's time! Lee's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Simon tries to score a power double leg takedown but Lee sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Simon somewhat.
Lee seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Lee fails with the takedown.
Simon feints the counter takedown.
Lee swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Simon counters with a straight right hand.
Simon tries to score a power double leg takedown but Lee sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Simon somewhat.

Lee is looking to break free of the clinch but Simon has double underhooks.

Simon pulls guard effortlessly.
Simon lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Simon trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Simon stops Lee from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Simon wants to pass the guard but Lee is keeping the position.
Simon passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.

Simon is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Simon has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lee pushes Simon off looking to stand but Simon dives back in and keeps control.
Simon sitting and controlling from the half guard.

Simon stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Lee goes for a double leg but Simon avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Simon continues to drive forward.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Simon gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Simon throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Simon drags the fight down to the ground.
Simon pulls Lee in close to prevent any damage.
Simon tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Simon is pulling down on Lee's head to control his posture.

Simon looking for a guillotine here but Lee defends easily.

Lee got a little sloppy there for a moment and Simon has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lee has managed to get both his arms back between Simon's legs - danger averted.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Simon is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Simon's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Lee tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Simon paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Lee tries for a takedown but Simon circles away easily
and Simon counters with a lovely shot to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kyle Lee. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Lee fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Patrick Simon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Lee shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Simon counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Simon is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Lee is looking to escape.

Lee is trying to control but can't.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Simon throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Simon is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Simon works his way into full mount!
Lee is looking to improve his position but Simon isn't that keen on the idea.
Simon lands with some strikes.

Simon misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Lee defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Simon.

Simon is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Lee has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Lee!
Simon has his hands on Lee's head, controlling the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Simon looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Simon wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Lee trying to stand up but can't free himself from Simon's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Simon managing to control the position.

Lee avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Patrick Simon has got the better of the ground game so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Lee loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

And that's the end of the fight!
Patrick Simon comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Simon has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
