Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aleksey Borodin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, John Jones!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Daniel Bishop and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones shoots for a takedown but Borodin saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Borodin decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Jones keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Jones is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Borodin loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Borodin is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Jones is surviving well by controlling Borodin's body position as best he can.

Borodin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jones sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Borodin moves in looking to clinch but Jones pushes him off.

Jones gets caught flat footed, as Borodin shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Borodin sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Jones's guard.

Jones looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Borodin has picked Jones up and slammed him! Jones can't keep hold of the triangle and Borodin manages to pass to side control!

John Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jones avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Borodin changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jones looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Borodin fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Jones to the ground. Borodin is now in Jones's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Borodin is pushing down on Jones's leg trying to pass to half guard. Jones is fighting to maintain full guard but Borodin has managed to sneak the leg through.
Jones tries to roll over but Borodin keeps him under control.

Still in half guard, Borodin seems content to control.
It looks like Borodin is going to stand back up.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

and Borodin counters with a crisp one two that drops Jones! Borodin thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Jones to his feet! Jones is in big trouble!

Borodin seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Borodin passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Jones!

Borodin seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Jones for as long as he can get away with.

Borodin bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jones's guard.


Jones working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Borodin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Borodin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
