PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Natural Born Killer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Take my hand. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Natural Born Killer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Brian Jones!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yukihiro Shimada and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Killer takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Jones. Killer shrugs it off though.
Jab, jab by Jones - just one landing.
A head kick misses from Jones.
Jones walks into a straight right hand from Killer.
Jones is looking to clinch.
Killer misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Jones.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
It looked like Killer wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Jones escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Killer gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Killer is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Beast Cartel that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

Killer stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Jones changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Killer tries to avoid it but Jones manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Killer to the ground. Killer escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Natural Born Killer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brian Jones.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch but Killer swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A little feinted left hand from Killer on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
An inside leg kick from Jones misses.
Jones feints and then cracks Killer's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Killer down.

Killer missing with a left hand there. Jones was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Jones throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Jones uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Good leg kick by Jones there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Killer on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Jones. Jones obviously looking to wear him down.

Jones throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Jones dives in and grabs Killer's left leg, looking for a takedown. Killer pushes down on Jones's head and hops out.

Jones shoots in looking for a takedown. Killer tries to sprawl out of it but Jones keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Killer manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Killer swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Killer throws a hook but Jones avoids it easily.
Jones misses with a leg kick
and Killer counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Killer avoids the head kick by Jones.
Jones clobbers Killer with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Jones throws a jab when Killer was well out of range.
Killer was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Brian Jones will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Killer checks a leg kick.
Jones tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Jones shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Killer's guard.
Killer keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.
Killer knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jones on the ground.
Killer wants to get back to his feet but Jones is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jones is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Jones is fighting to break Killer's control of his arms but Killer is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

and Jones connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Killer ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Jones moves away.

Jones has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.

Jones lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Jones throws a front kick aimed at Killer's knee but Killer avoids it well.
A little feinted left hand from Killer on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Jones does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Jones tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but Killer shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Killer takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Killer throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Jones stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Killer displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Jones throws out the jab.
Jones fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Killer has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
