The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burks shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
A head kick misses from Rickard.
Burks fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Rickard avoids it really well and circles away.

and Rickard counters by moving into the clinch.

Rickard's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Burks misses with a hook.
Burks fails with the takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rickard fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Burks checks it well.

Rickard breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Burks throws out a loose jab but Rickard uses good head movement to avoid it.
Burks fails with the takedown.
Rickard throws a right hand that Burks ducks under and follows up with a left that Burks also avoids with ease.
Burks attempts a counter takedown but Rickard avoids it well and moves away.
Jonathan Rickard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Burks gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Rickard seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Burks can't keep his opponent in guard - Rickard advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Rickard wants to stand but Burks has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Burks wants to control but Rickard is keeping busy.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rickard in particular looking to stall.
