PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lucky Day (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricardo Jamison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lucky Day!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ricardo Jamison!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Robert Twigg and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Day throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Jamison.
Jamison tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Day was well out of range. Poor timing from Jamison.
Day takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Jamison misses with a hook
and Day connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Jamison shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Day lands a nice hook to Jamison's body. Jamison takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
A left lands for Day.
Jamison rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Day moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Jab, jab by Day - just one landing.
Day cracks Jamison with an open hand slap.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Jamison throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Day connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Jamison throws a series of punches but Day moves out of range.
Day throws a jab when Jamison was well out of range.
Jamison drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Day defends it well.
Day takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Day throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Jamison gets a takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Day is looking for a sweep. Jamison is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Day takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Day tries to lock up and control but Jamison gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Jamison prevents Day from getting the reversal.

Jamison seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Day does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Jamison working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

Jamison can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Day is looking to escape.
Day bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Jamison had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Day defends it easily.

Jamison is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Day is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Jamison is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Jamison has escaped and now he's on top!

Jamison has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Jamison keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Day's head.

Jamison makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Jamison is pushing down on Day's leg trying to pass to half guard. Day is fighting to maintain full guard but Jamison has managed to sneak the leg through.

Day regains half guard there - taking advantage of Jamison's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

Ricardo Jamison showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Day is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jamison defends well.
Jamison is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Jamison's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Jamison postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Lucky Day has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Day is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Jamison stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Day swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Day working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jamison doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jamison manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Jamison stands up over Day, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Day looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Jamison has picked Day up and slammed him! Day can't keep hold of the triangle and Jamison manages to pass to side control!

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Day tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Jamison lands an elbow.
Day manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Jamison drops an elbow to the side of Day's head.
Day is trying to get back to full guard.
Jamison content to control rather than advance.
Jamison looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Day with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.


Day is rocked!

Jamison lands with a punch from half guard.
Oh Day is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Jamison seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Day is looking to improve his position.
Jamison slips a nice elbow through Day's hands, connecting with Day's forehead.
Jamison stalling away here and it's allowed Day to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Jamison loads up on a big left hand. Day felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Jamison looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Day can't hide his disappointment, as Jamison celebrates the victory.
