PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ruiz Edinhio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Levi Ta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Levi Ta struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 171.2lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Ruiz Edinhio has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ruiz Edinhio!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Levi Ta!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Ben Hemmingworth and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Edinhio is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Ta's half guard.

Edinhio is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Edinhio wants to control but Ta is keeping him busy.
Edinhio prevents Ta from improving his position.
Ta is trying to maintain the position but Edinhio is very close to passing his half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ta is not content to let Edinhio control the position.

Edinhio goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Ta has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Edinhio but great work by Ta.

Ta works to advance to full mount. Edinhio defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Ta slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Ta cracks Edinhio with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Ta had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Edinhio defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Edinhio got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ta has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Edinhio has managed to get both his arms back between Ta's legs - danger averted.

Edinhio drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Ta dives on top into guard.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Edinhio tries to sprawl but Ta drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Ta wants to sweep here but Edinhio controlling him for the moment.

A close second round but Levi Ta will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!


Ta stuffs the takedown attempt from Edinhio. Edinhio gets slowly back to his feet.
Ta drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Edinhio defends it well.

Ta shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Edinhio's guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Edinhio drops back looking for a leg! Ta is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ta manages to kick Edinhio off! Edinhio jumps back into Ta's guard.

Edinhio is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Ta knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
You can see the frustration on Ta's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Edinhio tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Edinhio has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ta wants to control but Edinhio postures up.
Ruiz Edinhio has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ta can do anything to dispel that myth.
Ta is trying to get back to half guard.
Ta wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Edinhio thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Levi Ta is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ta avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Edinhio.

Ruiz Edinhio showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Ta has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
