PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Borris Truck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Torsten Svensson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Borris Truck!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Torsten Svensson!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Valeri Chadov and Fedor Mirinova.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Truck closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Truck is trying to trip Svensson. He has hold of a leg but Svensson is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Truck persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Svensson preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Svensson keeping moving, preventing Truck from controlling successfully.
Truck is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Svensson is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Truck throws a strike but Svensson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Truck is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Svensson is aware though and is defending well.

Truck working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Svensson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Svensson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Truck had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Svensson defends it easily.
Truck is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Svensson has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Cozad MMA St Petersburg. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

I was talking to Truck's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Truck is trying to drag Svensson to the mat but Svensson just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Svensson gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Svensson is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Truck makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Truck.
Truck might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Truck escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Svensson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Truck wants to sweep but no luck.
Svensson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Truck has his foot on Svensson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Svensson works his way back into a safe position though.
Svensson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Svensson is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Truck looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Svensson slips nicely into half guard.
Well, if Svensson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Let's hope that Svensson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
