PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Yuya Shimizu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Koski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Shimizu might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Alright, let's do this.. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 35 - 17 - 2, fighting out of Helsinki, Yuya Shimizu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Juan Koski!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Steve Smith and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shimizu avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Shimizu seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Shimizu looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Koski on the wrong end of a kick to the body.

Koski moves out of range of the strikes.

Shimizu uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Koski has time to react.

Shimizu got a little sloppy there for a moment and Koski has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Shimizu has managed to get both his arms back between Koski's legs - danger averted.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Koski crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Shimizu - the referee stops the clock and Koski gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Shimizu. Koski manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Shimizu has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

Shimizu steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Koski. That one must have hurt.
